Roundhouse Museum Tours

Roundhouse is Alaska’s only mountaintop museum, with 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape and showcases the pioneers and top skiers of the area. The exhibits profile the growth of recreation and tourism in the area post World War II.

Sitting on an exposed ridge at 2,280 feet above sea level, the view alone is worth a visit. From the museum’s windows seven glaciers and two different mountain ranges, as well as the waters of the Turnagain Arm, can be viewed.

When it was constructed in 1960, the 5,800-foot chairlift to the museum was the longest in the world. Today it is a part of Alaska’s largest ski resort and the Girdwood area’s culture and history.  It still serves as a warming point and gathering spot for many, with a restaurant and lounge.
