The basics
Like many agricultural producers in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area of Ontario, Kurtz Orchards was established by European immigrants to Canada who wanted to continue their traditional practices in their new land. Although it’s called an orchard, visitors can enjoy a range of food experiences here: eat freshly made bakery produce, sample local and international cheeses, have a picnic amount the fruit trees, and more. They also run seasonal tram tours for a relaxed way of checking out the picturesque landscape.
Most people visit Kurtz Orchards independently. If you want to visit with a guide, take a private culinary or wine tour of the Niagara-on-the-Lake region and ask for Kurtz Orchards to be included on the itinerary.

How to get there
Kurtz Orchards is just south of Niagara-on-the-Lake, overlooking the Niagara River and a few miles from the shores of Lake Ontario. It’s just before the turn-off down the East and West Line Road. It’s easiest to reach by private vehicle, or by bike if you’re feeling more active.

When to get there
Kurtz Orchards periodically holds seasonal events, such as afternoons of beer tasting. Check their website before your visit to see if anything will be held at the time. The warmer months of summer (June–September) are the best time to visit.
Cycle the Niagara River Recreation Trail
The 34-mile (56-kilometer) Niagara River Recreation Trail is a fun way to experience more of the region’s beautiful countryside. You can make the trip as vigorous or as relaxed as you like, stopping along the way at vineyards and photo vantage points, or getting a good workout by cycling it in one go. Enjoy the views of Lake Ontario, the Niagara River, and across the border to the USA.
