Panoramica

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The whole day was well organized and Chiara and Anze, our guides, were very accommodating and funny, we learned a lot about the history of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. All in all, I could say we got our money's worth. I highly recommend this excursion.

We visited Naples and Pompeii on this tour. Enjoyed it very much. Our “fairy godmothers” - Angela and Louise were both very knowledgable and helpful. Went above and beyond in my opinion. This was my 2nd time in Pompeii and still totally enjoyed it.

The two main things were visited were great. It was a good climb up to the rim of the volcano. The views of Naples and Capri alone made it worth it. The ruins ar Pompeii were amazing and the local guide really gave you feel of what Roman life was like. Only things I’d criticize were the lunch meal and the main guide’s insistence on only scheduled bathroom breaks. The “Napoli” pizza was probably the worst I’ve ever had in Italy. There are numerous free bathrooms within Pompeii but the guide told people to wait until we left where it was a pay bathroom. That also meant it was - 2.5 hours between bathroom breaks.

What a great tour!! It is a long bus ride to and from Pompeii, but they do a comfort stop about halfway which was very nice. Pompeii was absolutely amazing!! We had Mikala as our main tour guide and Anna as our tour guide of Pompeii itself. Anna was very knowledgeable and passionate and showed us so many amazing things! Lots of walking on stones and such. Important to wear shoes good for this. We were not able to go to Mount Vesuvius because of a landslide. They took us to a museum instead and we saw artifacts from everyday life. It was a great experience and we highly recommend it!

Unfortunately we were unable to see Mt. Vesuvius and probably would have booked a different tour had we known this ahead of time. Prior to our day trip Rome/Italy had experienced a copious amount of rain that made getting to Mt. Vesuvius dangerous for tour busses.

Our first stop was Pompeii. We had two guides on the bus, Marco and Dimitri. When we got to Pompeii we had a new guide. All three guides seemed to be obsessed with male genitalia, just FYI. Pompeii was really interesting. Such tragic history that they have worked so hard to uncover. I wouldn't have missed Pompeii for anything. The guide could have been better though.

Once we were done touring Pompeii we were literally rushed to the bus to head to lunch. We weren't given time to stop and look at the souvenir shops that are set up outside of the ruins. I would have loved to peruse. Fortunately, lunch was nice. We ate lunch about 15 minutes away from Pompeii were we all got our choice of pizza toppings.

After lunch we went to Naples and visited the National Archaeological Museum. This is where we went instead of Mt. Vesuvius. It had interesting Egyptian and Greek exhibits. And apparently, according to one of our guides who was obsessed, a Secret Cabinet.

In short, this day trip could have been much better.

Claudia was wonderful - she was personable and knowledgable. Our local guide at Pompeii was also terrific and knowledgable. Sadly Vesuvius was closed, but there's nothing the tour company could do about that. Instead we went into Naples to the museum where Pompeii artifacts are displayed - after days in Rome seeing statues and frescoes we could have just as easily skipped it, but the model of Pompeii really impressed how much was buried and what remains to uncover. The provided lunch (pizza) wasn't bad, but the facility itself was interesting - packed us in like sardines and it was uncomfortably hot. All in all it's a good tour but a long 13 hour day. There's a stop each way between Rome and Pompeii, at the same rest area that includes restrooms, snack bar, and a plethora of "only in Italy" items for sale. We totally burned a lot of time on those stops (as well as the lunch location) that we would have preferred not to waste.

Wonderful trip, even the views from the bus (both ways, sunrise and sunset) were beautiful. Our guide was a young Italian born American man who had a good sense of humor and who was a great guide. Vesuvius is amazing, the view to Napoli, Capri and Ischia is great. The nature is interesting. Good place to take pictures of the mountin, nature and the view.Pizza was good.Pompei is something everybody should see. It's so huge and in good condition and full of interesting places. We had a great local guide in Pompei, who told us interesting stories.

My husband and I are so glad we booked this tour! Our City Wonders tour guide, Claudia, was very entertaining and helpful - she offered lots of history about the places we were visiting and lots of helpful tips for our stay in Rome. Our Pompeii tour guide, Nicoli, was very entertaining and helpful as well. The hike up to the top of Mount Vesuvius was actually more difficult than my husband and I anticipated, and we are late twenties/early thirties and relatively in-shape, but the hike was still very much doable, and the views were breathtaking (like the hike - lol), so we are glad we did it! I have already recommended this tour to others!

Our Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius was a disappointment because there was no Vesuvius due to safety concerns regarding a recent landslide. Participants should have been advised prior to the trip and given a discount or allowed to cancel without losing anything. That said, the guide was first rate and did his best to make up for the disappointment..
