This tour took us by boat from Sorrento to Capri. Overall, the time on the boat was great... great captain Giovanni, stopped at sights like the blue grotto, stopped for a swim, etc. Capri was also lovely and we had plenty of time on the island. What was not so great was the lack of communication !!!! We were picked up in Naples for bus transfer to the Sorrento tour location. In Sorrento we were dropped on a street corner with a please wait here. After about 15 minutes of standing and another 3 buses unloading people in the street, we were walked to the tour location about 10 minutes away... still no explanation of process or timing... anyway, we were picked up at 8:30 but it was about 11 by the time we actually got on the boat. Getting home afterwards was similarly frustrating as we sat around to find out how / when we would get home. Having said that, I'd still do the tour rather than catch the big ferry over to Capri and miss the small boat experience, the grottos, the swim, the cruise completely around the island... the boat part of the tour was worth the frustrations - just be prepared to spend some time standing around without being kept in the loop. Obviously they have their process, and ultimately we got the tour we booked, just don't expect it to run like Disneyland... go with the flow, expect some delays when it seems like nothing is happening, and you'll end up having a pretty nice day.
Enjoyed the boat trip very much. Highly recommended.
Sights and information on the tour was very good.
That leaves four hours or so on land for you to explore Capri yourself.
I had a very nice meal on the Island during that time.
Tour radio supplied to get further information at certain spots.
The skipper was permanently on the phone - obviously with his girl friend. His command of English was not existing. In principle great tour. However, the skipper could have showed at least some interest for the guests....
This was one of the best tours I ever did! The boat is great and there's only 12 people per tour. The captain is really nice and told us lots of stories. One tip is to ask him a few time to swim while in the boat since the free beaches in Capri are crowded.
Capri is absolutely gorgeous - and Luigi boat tour guide was amazing. We stopped twice to swim once before stopping at Capri and once on the way back home. We also had about 3 hours to explore the island. I would do this tour again in a heart beat.
The only bad thing about the this tour was the driver who picked me up in the morning. He decided he wasn't going to take me back to Naples after the tour - and left me stranded at a random hotel in a random town about an hour or so away from Naples. My choice was to take a taxi to the nearest train station - or have the taxi take me back to Naples, which cost about 80 Euros. Not good at all.
The boat trip was wonderful, and just as described. There were refreshments -- not enough beer for 12 people, but the skipper also offered wine and Limoncello on our way back from Capri.
What the description doesn't state is that it is a 90 minute ride from the pick up point to the boat and the driver speaks little to no English. If you need to stop to use the restroom, the answer is no. If you need to understand how much longer the trip will be, the answer is no with the possible clarifying addition of some hand signals and an annoyed face. Also, thanks to Italian traffic, we returned almost an hour late. Do not book this excursion if you have to catch a flight or train that day.
Overall the excursion is worth it, but I wish I had more information before heading out. I would have brought my own drinks, and planned to be in the car for 3 hours total.
This is a terrific tour in theory but you need to work some kinks out.
Our driver picked us up at central station in Naples but had us sit in the very back seat of van when we didn't pick up another couple for over 30 minutes. This was on a hot day through windy roads and was not pleasant. We didn't realize that the drive from Naples to Sorrento would take well over an hour, if we did, we probably would not have taken part in this tour.
There is a mistake in the copy re this tour. It says take a deep in the water, I did not read this as dip, as it should have, so we did not have our swimsuits, which was very upsetting. We were given 15 min to swim and provided snorkeling equipment! This is not advertised well at all on Viator.
It also says that we needed our passports on the tour. We definitely did not need our passports and it just added extra stress having these on our person while on a boat.
Finally, the trip back to Naples was a nightmare. We were stuck back in that back seat of the van again and had to drop off two other couples first, both at their respective hotels which was convenient for them but a long nuisance for us. To make matters worse, the driver got lost several times and we were driving aimlessly around when we were expecting to have a direct ride back to Naples, where it wasn't even to our hotel like the others!
The entire tour took 11 hours. Even if the driver hadn't gotten lost, it still would've lasted 10 hours, door to door, not 8 as advertised.
I think viator is great, I have used it for years and recommend it to many people. This tour could've been 5 stars but unfortunately it was not.
