We had a great time on the canal tour with our captain, he provided us with tons on information on the history of the Amsterdam canals and town. We learned later on during the tour that he himself lives in one of the many house boats you will see in Amsterdam, which was not that much of surprise considering how enthusiast and insightful he was as he drove us around Amsterdam while answering many of our questions. I would recommend his tour to anyone visiting Amsterdam who wants a true experience of the canals. I have not been on any of the other canal tours that you will see, but this ride was relaxing and definitely for someone who doesnt mind a non-scripted, personal tour that will teach one tons of things about the city!
A wonderful, wonderful tour! The captain is very knowledgeable, warm and helpful, answering many questions about Amsterdam including ones about business, culture, politics and architecture. Unlike the huge boats with recorded tours, this is a small group setting with personalized tour not a booze cruise. The boat is electric so totally quiet and without gas fumes. We felt like house guests, getting a behind the scenes view that tourists rarely get. Definitely a must-do!
This was a great tour! The right size - about 12 people on the boat - so that it felt personal. Our guide gave a personal narrative with interesting information and history without coming off as a canned speech. The tour was the right length and provided a great glimpse at the other side of the city that should not be missed. This tour was enjoyed by our entire family which included 3 generations.
Despite the squally showers we had a great relaxing trip. We appeared to go everywhere and mostly where the big commercial boats couldn't go! The boat is electric hence it is so quiet and no fumes from an engine so you really do hear the lapping of the waves against the boat. Our captain was great fun and spoke fluent English. I would absolutely recommend this trip it was a great way to spend Sunday Morning when it is much quieter on the canals. So glad we booked it :-
