I went with low expectations which were still too high. I wanted to experience a Hungarian bath/spa, and this was listed highly as something to do in Budapest in many articles. We booked a couples massage and bath entry. The workers weren’t coordinated in appearance which seemed low class. The changing cabin was very old and dated. The thermal pools are really just old pools with warm water. Crowded with people. You have to walk through community foot baths to get into the “spa” which totally grossed me out. The treatment rooms are low class. The massage was fair. My masseuse somehow scratched my leg up during my treatment. It felt like she had s callous that kept scratching me. My husband and I actually laughed aloud as we were shown to our treatment rooms as we both felt it resembled a sanitarium or tuberculosis hospital. Strange place and experience. Seems quite popular, but if you are use to US spas and consider yourself even the slightest bit picky about things don’t go.
Pre-booked tickets and also a massage. Had a fabulous day. Spent most of it in the main outside pool. Sat in 28 heat with the snow falling. Quite an experience. The massage was excellent. Would recommend pre-booking.
Took this tour because the wife wanted to do it...not really my thing. Note that this review is just my personal opinion about the Spa itself, and not any criticism of Viator itself. Viator did everything great and had no problems with them. I get that the baths in Budapest are something you are supposed to experience, but it may just not have been my cup of tea. The massage was very good. But the baths themselves seem to me to be nothing any different from public swimming pools in any other city. Do it if you like to say you had the experience, but to me, there are better things to do in Budapest.
Viator has helped make the famous Szechenyi thermal pools accessible to those who don't speak Hungarian and it allows them to have an introduction to one of the great attractions that makes Budapest so unique. Whether you go just for the thermal pools or for the other services, it is a real treat that you will always remember. On a hot, sunny day in summer, this is the place to be.
The facility is huge and was built over 100 years ago. It's not maintained as well as I would have liked.
We were there on a Sunday and it was really crowded. The massage we had, was wonderful and in
a wing of the facility that was clean, and quite. If you swim in the large outdoor pool that has lanes, you must wear a cap. They have them for sale there.
A bit overrated in my opinion. The massage was good, worth the cost. The spa is so-so. The water was not as warm as I would have liked, bit on the cooler side from what I expected. Food is overpriced, which is to be expected. I was less than impressed.
