Surprised how small and personal this trip was! Met by our guide at the hotel and then straight away went up to the Barron River estates, all the while our guide answered questions we peppered him with en route. The fruit farm in the rainforest is large enough to have adequate space and trails for the ATVs. My boys, 10 and 12 were thrilled they got their own small ATVs. She made sure they were capable of handling the vehicle prior to taking off. If not, they could have ridden in a 4 WD vehicle. Ran into 2 cassowaries along the river for a photo stop and gorgeous old trees she told us about all along the trail. Bring your own water bottles though. None for purchase or drinking there. After the ATVs, our guide brought us in the Kuranda village (after the markets closed and it was peaceful) to get water and toilet stop. Then, he gave us boomerang lessons! The boys had a blast and had some great throws. They didn’t want to quit. Finally, on the way home, we asked for dinner suggestions and he dropped us at the restaurant in Cairns. Great way to spend our first half day in Cairns since we arrived at lunch from the airport.
