Tutlum was wonderfu and our guide was knowledablel, the cenote was a delight for all ages. Our snorkeling was cancelled due to weather and I felt the staff on the Catamaran were too aggressive in pushing the alcohol to make up for the cancellation. When a customer says No- they actively engaged the entire ship to chant to have the staff squirt their mysterious alcoholic mixture into the person's mouth. I realize it was being done in fun--but I felt this was inappropriate and irresponsible to pressure customers who were repeatedly saying No--clamping their mouths shut...they should quietly move onto the next person.
Also if you note a person is intoxicated, the staff should refuse to serve them under they have reached their limit or slow down their serving. Drunk people are not known for good judgement when drinking.
I really wanted to give this tour 5 stars but I cannot. First thing , Please be prompt/on time or you WILL get left behind! There are some things they can do better to make the trip a smoothe one, MANY tourist traps on this tour for sure as they try to charge you for EVERY little thing!! You do have to pay a 12 port fee so please be prepared for that! They have many ladies walking around pressuring you to buy their organic sunblock cream and telling you the sunblock you have already is toxic! Do NOT get sucked into that , try to bring your own organic sunblock if you can . On day one we took the catamaran , they packed the boat with WAY TOO many people!! There was NO place to store your belongings so please keep an eye on your things! There is a small bathroom located downstairs on the boat to change into your swim-ware if need be. They do provide you with free alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages every 5 minutes on the catamaran, so please be prepared to tip at the end of the trip! They do have a photographer on the boat and they will sell you the pictures they took of you near the end of the trip. Warning: Please bring a towel or you can rent one for 5 USD. The snorkeling session was a joke. The snorkeling gear was inclusive with the package. They said the snorkeling was 45 minutes to 1 hour, but by the time everyone on the boat remember the boat was very crowded was geared up and into the water 30 minutes already passed by! So you are lucky to get 20 - 30 full minutes to snorkel. Even in the water it was TOO many people snorkeling because we had to stay in a designated area and could not go outside of that area. I often got kicked or bumped into because too many people trying to explore at one time. We did enjoy every minute of the snorkeling, I just wished we had more time to do so. Next we went to Isla Mujeres . That too was a MAJOR tourist trap! Warning: most places charge you to use the bathrooms there! Very aggressive sellers on the streets trying to get you into their stores. Instead of being harrassed by aggressive sellers, you can go the beach it was very beautiful, quiet and they don't charge you to be there! Be prepared to spend 2 to 2.5 hours in Isla Mujeres. We felt this was a total waste of time! I wish we could have taken more time for snorkeling instead of this tourist trap , especially when all the stores have the all the same products but for 300% higher price than your local mercado next to your hotel! Next we were taken to a restaurant with the inclusive buffet. We ate lunch SUPER late! I highly recommend to bring snacks or eat something at the Isla Mujeres stop. The food at the restaurant was good with many options to choose from meat and vegetarian foods provided . If you do get drinks from the bar please know they are NOT included! The view from the restaurant was absolutely beautiful! We ate right on the beach next to date palms and coconut trees. If you finish lunch early, you can walk just a few steps down to the beach for quick swim and/or some quiet time alone. They do not charge for the bathroom or to use the shower there, but the bathroom attendents would like to be tipped. Then you will board the catamaran and they take you back to your location. They will play music and serve ample amounts of alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. All of a sudden it turned into a big party! The music was good, many people will get up to dance on the boat. So if the party scene is not your thing, lots of cosumming of alcohol or if you dont like crowds. I do not recommend this trip! Warning: the boat leaves ON TIME , so do not be late! It is very expensive to take a taxi back into town!
I will try to post part 2 of the trip to Tulum.
