We really enjoyed this trip as a family of four, my two daughters are aged 9 and 13. There were 126 people on the Karaka the day we went and it was still comfortable and not overly cramped. We paid 190 in all, which I felt was good value, the meal on board was a very good freshly made buffet with chicken and fish, the girls enjoyed this very much. You can either eat top deck or inside which is air conditioned and has a bar area, very comfortable! If you consider Dubrovnik pricing for food and drink this probably covers a third of the cost spent. There was 3 main tour guides on board and the group was split into 3 so circa 40 people to one guide, they were very knowledgable and friendly. At each island you gather first to get some background on the location and then are set free to explore and do as you please. I read a few reviews before booking this trip and noticed a number saying there is not much to do on the islands, although this is not entirely untrue the beauty in the islands is very subtle, probably not a trip for philistines.
The live music on board made for fun travel between the islands, our musicians did everything from Croatian classics to the Proclaimers, great stuff!
Wow, what a great way to see the islands! I looked at a few tours to visit these three islands and I am so glad I chose this one! The two guides that joined us on the cruise are so friendly, patient and knowledgeable. The islands are beautiful, as is the boat on which you are traveling. There were plenty of people on the boat but it's not packed and there's plenty of room to move around, unlike other tour boats I saw. The musicians add much to the atmosphere and are charismatic. Having the option to go indoors to the air conditioning was nice as the day was so hot and there is no shade on the boat, but once you are off sailing, you don't feel the heat. Just keep sunscreening!. We were pleasantly surprised with the food - Very nice, good selection. Was nice to have lunch seating indoors on the boat at set tables after being in the sun all day. As other reviewers said, bring water shoes, as some beaches are rocky or have lots of pebbles. I probably would have hurt my feet swimming at the second beach, had I not worn them. All the beaches are very close to where you are dropped off on the islands so you don't have to worry about making it back and forth to a beach in time. The first two island stops are shorter, just enough time for a little swim and a bit of exploring around the small town. Last stop on Lopud is about three hours so you have plenty of time to explore, relax, take a longer swim, get some ice cream, whatever you like. Everywhere you go, your ship is in view at the harbor. We brought towels as suggested but never really used them. In August it's so hot that you air dry almost immediately! Overall, I'd definitely recommend this cruise! Great value.
This was a fantastic day out on a beautiful reproduction karaka. The staff were very pleasant and informative. We had a delicious lunch with plenty for all. The whole day was well planned and went like clockwork. The musicians were great and really talented and all had a fun time singing along to requests. We enjoyed all the island visits but especially Lopud where the swimming off a sandy beach was just the ticket on a roasting hot day. We considered that the day out was very good value for money.
We were picked up from our hotel in Mlini and taken to the Port of Gruz to board our Karaka. There were lots of people on board but plenty of places to sit. There is no shade unless you go indoors so take plenty of sunscreen as it's a real suntrap! Each of the islands was great in it's own way. Interesting places to visit. It was great swimming from the Beach in Lopud. There was one beach about 5 mins walk, and another beach about 10 mins walk. Beach shoes are advisable as it's quite pebbly. The sea was crystal clear and great to swim in. Lots of bars and cafes in Lopud to get food or drink from. Great ice creams there. You can grab a drink or ice cream on the other islands too.
The food provided on the boat was lovely. There was salad, bread, potato salad, chicken, fish. Then later there was fresh water melon. It was all very tasty.
The entertainment on board was great too, and they played to the crowd. It was good fun. All in all a great trip with good guides and well worth the money.
This was a full fun day going out on the Adriatic sea and visiting the islands around Dubrovnik. The ship is very nice and looks to be in good shape. All persons on the crew were kind and spoke English well enough to get any needed information across. The lunch provided was a very good mixture of foods that are local to the area. I would highly recommend taking a towel, water, sunblock, shoes that you can wear in the water if you choose to swim/snorkel along with some clothing that you can fully cover up with because the majority of the seating was uncovered.
I enjoyed the boat trip and the included lunch is good plus you get a free drink so it was pretty good value for money. If you are not swimming there is not much to do on the islands although it was lovely weather so nice to relax with ice cream or coffee, more of a do it yourself than a tour.
