This was a really good tour! The time of year was not the best, but we knew that going in - cold and rainy. We chose a small-group tour, because it's in a mini-bus, and, with only about 12 people, we could go anywhere we needed to go, as opposed to a large bus tour. Our tour guide/driver was friendly, but was far too opinionated for my taste. A couple choices he made need to be tweaked. We seem to have been making the tour going backwards compared to the usual direction of the tour, and so he wasn't always sure of the timing. We went to visit a whiskey distillery, and we got there too early for a tour, so we could only browse and, if we wanted, to a tasting. It would be much better to time toe arrival for the beginning of a tour! We ended up being unable to tour any distillery. We passed several castles and castle ruins, and, although we stopped for a couple of photo ops, there was never a plan to tour any of them. When we arrived at the 13th Eilean Donan castle on the third day, we got there 45 minutes before it opened, and the tour guide said we could take pics. but then we'd leave. He said that seeing castles was just a way of taking the people's money and not worth it. We all wanted very much to tour the castle - fully furnished and restored to impeccable condition, one of the best in the Isle of Skye! We insisted, he inquired when they would open, and we all happily waited until 10:00. It was absolutely marvelous to see the inside of this beautiful, historic castle, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss it for the world! This schedule could have been tweaked SO easily to have arrived at 10:00 for the opening of the castle. And it was only 6.50 pounds! When I asked the tour guide if he'd ever been inside, he said No! I offered to pay his ticket for the next time he brings a group there, but he said that tour guides get in free! So - if you take this tour and your tour guide/driver isn't keen on stopping to let you tour the castle - insist! It is well, well worth the stop! We stayed 2 nights in Portree, and I along with my two friends happened to be put up at The Duirinish B and B, which was absolutely delightful and a short walk into town. All in all, a wonderful tour, which could be made a 5-star tour if a few easy changes were made to the schedule, and the tour guide was a bit less opinionated.
We are so glad that we signed up for this tour. The sights were wonderful, and the guide did a great job of explaining what we were looking at while providing a nice overview of Ireland's crazy history! We left the meeting point right on time, and the guide kept us moving - but not rushed. The guide did his best to accommodate the interests of our group regarding the things that we saw. We felt that 3 days was just right for what we wanted. The bus was clean and pretty new. We stayed in Bed and Breakfasts for the 2 nights and they were great. Would recommend this to friends.
