This was SO fantastic! It might have been the highlight of our trip to Scotland. The places we visited were absolutely stunning. Due to the small size of the tour we were able to actually see the places we visited and interact with our guide. Speaking of, our guide, Bryan, was great! Extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. I highly recommend this tour if you want a stress free way of seeing the highlands
I am not a fan of big bus tours, so this 10 hour small tour was perfect. Our driver Bryon was knowledgeable and took us to places I would never have been able to find on our own, even though we were driving and exploring the rest of Scotland. Bryon tried to back track a few times as the weather cleared to make certain we were able to get the best views. Im not sure I believe Bryons Grandfather saw Nessie but we enjoyed his stories and commentary! At one stop he provided whiskey and homemade shortbread made by his wife which was a nice treat. Will use aviator again when making travel plans.
Gordon was awesome! He was extremely knowledgeable, well-traveled, fully kilted, an amazing "vibrant" driver (always aware of making the best use of our time!), and truly loves the area he is showing you. We wondered how a long bus trip would fare with young people, but he made every mile an adventure. We didn't stay long at each place, but plenty long enough for photos and stretching our legs. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and he took us places that not everyone gets to go. He saved the best for last with the Faerie Glens! Though rainy and muddy (i.e., slippery!), we made it through every stop and enjoyed every single chilly second. The real test was at the end of our trip I asked my young adult children what was their best memory of Scotland and they said "The Isle of Skye trip" at the same time. We have photos and memories and much admiration for Gordon and his tour. We would do it all again if we're ever privileged to come back. Well worth every penny spent. The only tip I could give for improvement is to stock hot drinks on the bus or provide time to get some at the shops and cafe caravans (and not sacrifice toilet breaks or photo shoots to get it!).
Gordon driver/guide was lively and full of stories and interesting information. It was a long day - 11 hours - but well worth it. We managed to see a lot as we dodged the showers here and there. I think we could have spent a bit less time around LochNess on the way up to Skye I also think the stop at Eilean Donan Castle was a waste of time. Given the sights that lie ahead in Skye I would expedite things early on in the tour so you could have maximum time in Skye. The stop at the Fairy Glen was interesting.. maybe a bit oversold but still interesting. Lots of other places like Kilt Rock offer impressive views and scenery. When we returned to Inverness I was pooped out but I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would highly recommend it. With that I offer two comments for consideration: guests that are not punctual in returning to the bus should be warned the first time and left the second waiting for people is not fair to those that are on time. Also I would suggest installing wifi in the vans for guests I know we are on vacation but sometimes a connection is useful.
This tour was terrible, it gets a 1 star because we arrived home safe. There was a landslide which blocked our path to loch ness and urquhart castle, then an accident closed the road on the isle of Skye. Neither of these were in control of the tour company, but we learned on subsequent tours that other companies rearranged plans and provided an alternative tour, we had a picnic lunch which we ate standing up, stopped in portree for restroom stop, and saw 2 castles which photos had to be taken on a 40 zoom lens to see it. We had a similar situation on another tour and the company refunded 50% of our money before we even arrived back without being asked. Happy tours has made no such offer even though they were very aware of the challenges of the day. So many honorable tour companies out there, I do not recommend happy tours at all.
My niece and I took this tour on a recent trip to Inverness and I have to say that it was absolutely amazing. Our tour guide Bryan was incredible, sharing his local knowledge and providing great information on all the places we visited. I have taken many tours while traveling around the world and have to rate this one at the top because of the areas visited and Bryan. This was a small tour with only 8 people, which added to the pleasure of the tour because everyone complied with instructions and we were able to see everything on the agenda. We made a few stops along the way for comfort breaks and had a great lunch in Portree. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting the Scottish Highlands.
