Amazing 2-day Zagora Tour from Marrakech, Unforgettable
, 9 2019
This was one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had in my life. If I could go back and do it again, I would. Although the drive is pretty long, the stops along the way are so worth it, and the final destination at the Zagora Desert left my best friend and I breathless. The food was delicious and the camp was beautiful. Everyone at the camp made us feel so comfortable, & our guides were great. One of the best sunrises, sunsets, and stars i've ever seen. I 100% recommend this.
I booked this little adventure as it was my 50th birthday and wanted an experience to remember and I will for sure. Our driver Saidi picked us up from the hotel and off we set to pick up the others in our group of 8. We absolutely loved everything about this trip, driving through the Atlas Mountains, the scenery is simple stunning and stopping often for bathroom breaks, refreshments and lunch. You also visit a couple of historic places briefly. You do have to pay extra for lunch and for guides but it really is very cheap. You do get asked a lot to go into shops but they are not pushy people and are very polite if you say no. My Mum and I were a little worried about the camels as we are not the fittest of people but we managed to get on and stay on!! It was a very proud moment, lol my mum is in her seventies. You have to remember this is a short trip. It is quite a long way to travel in the car from Marrakesh but 100 percent worth it, the desert camp was simply amazing with clean toilets and showers, great food and music entertainment. You have to buy your drinks at camp also. It is a little slice of a desert experience as you are on the edge of the Zagora desert, so if you want to travel and have sand dunes all around then take a longer one. Thanks again to Saidi our lovely driver who was helpful at all times and very knowledgeable. The only thing that we found hard was how hot it was overnight and we had to come out of the tent and sleep outside but after all you are in the desert so can’t complain and it was all part of the experience. I would recommend this trip for sure.
The journey to the desert is a crazy ride but at no point did I my safety was jeapordized. We had a driver, Omar, I think who was a pro on the road. However, maybe he could explain a little bit as he drove along. We stopped at a couple of places for photo stops. The view is gorgeous! We also went to the UNESCO heritage site which was the filming location for many movies. The Camel riding through the desert was a splendid experience. But what blew my mind away was actually our accommodation that night, we stayed in tents. Before that we were served a scrumptious dinner spread and were entertained by Berber live music performance. And they let us play their drums although I was off beat the whole time. Prior to dinner we sat with one of the Berber guys and he gave quite a detailed explanation bout the history of berbers. He also answered our questions. At this point, when you look up in the night sky, you would see millions of stars. So damn bright and beautiful. Day 2 - I expected a little bit more but nope it was just a drive back to Marrakech. Overall great experience.
Really enjoyed the this trip overall. The views were outstanding, visiting Ait Ben Haddou was informative and beautiful. The camels were great fun and the camp was comfy! A couple of things were left out of the explanation when we booked it however. As far as we knew all we had to buy was lunch on the way there and the way plus water (definitely take water as none is provided) but we knew that so no issue there. When we arrived at Ait Ben Haddou we were greeted by a man called Muhammid. Great guy, spoke many languages and was extremely knowledgable. He took us around and threw the village which was great however he towards the end of the village tour he took us into a scarf shop and told us to get into the desert you need sunglasses, a scarf and suncream. We had all three but Muhammed insisted that you needed these top quality scarfs that were 12 euros each (thats our lunch money gone) then he led us to a restaurant for lunch. Food quality was a solid 4 out of 10 and choice was very limited. We had a set menu choice of around 12 euros each for a three course meal. Very small portions. Then he came around telling us that we had to pay for the tour he gave. 3 euros each. The tour was definitely worth more but as we were unaware of all these secret but necessary purchases we had no cash left for lunch or his trip fee! I had to borrow money from the bus driver (who was great) It was just a very awkward situation to be in that could have been avoided if we had known about the extra costs. Once we arrived at the camels we very quickly realised that the scarfs weren't necessary at all, nor the glasses, nor the suncream. It was November and about 17 degrees. The camel ride was shorter than expected but once we arrived at camp we met the berber camp hosts who were all fascinating to speak to and great at their jobs. If I were to do it again I'd book a longer tour of the desert. If you do take this tour I recommend buying a cheap scarf somewhere else for 2 euros and take sun glasses and suncream. There is no need to buy them there they are just an extra bit of cash from tourists. There was another cafe right by where we had lunch as well, I'd go there for lunch and meet the rest of the group at the restaurant afterwards. Still, a great experience, Atlas Mountains were great, camels were ridden and we stayed in the desert (just) but next time I'll go for longer in the desert and skip the tourist traps beforehand.
Absolutely amazing experience. From the drive through the stunning Atlas mountains to the food and entertainment at the camp. Once in a lifetime experience I'm very glad I did. The driver/guide was awesome and very a helpful, and also the tour operators went above and beyond for us on the first day as we got in the wrong vehicle outside our hotel (our fault) and they managed to get us picked up from a random spot in the Medina. Could not recommend this tour highly enough. Thank you
Excellent service and hosts, beatiful warm and friendly people.Mohamed was an excellent and careful driver.

The camp is very well organized (showers anf toilets) the food was lovely and more than enough. We listen and dance barbarian songs around the fire. Enjoyed and made the most of this experience. Stop the time for a bit and find yourself in the desert is more than blessing!
The van ride out to Zagora and the different sightseeing stops were excellent. The drive through the Atlas mountains was beautiful. We stopped at a small restaurant for lunch and it was good. You cannot beat the value of this trip. The camel ride was fun (a little uncomfortable) but you do not ride that long. The tent camp was well set up and the food was very good. The washrooms were way better than I expected. Here are the downsides: the beds are very hard and the tents are VERY hot. I was willing to give the review a 5 because everything else about the trip was so great even if you cannot sleep well.
