We visited Pearl Harbor for 3 hours and then visited the island for 4.5 hours. Our guide was Chris Rhodes, and he was terrific. He was knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and did a great job. Saw lots of beaches, points of interest in Honolulu, had a nice time at the Dole Plantation. Highly recommend this tour!
The online description is misleading: it states a cruise ship pickup is available with eventual drop off at the end of the day at either the airport or hotel. However, it does not clarify what happens to your luggage if this is done....because the Pearl Harbor driver is not the same one as the North shore driver, your luggage cannot stay in the vehicle. You have a choice of checking it all in at Pearl harbor, or leaving it at the cruise ship terminal bag storage. I did not find this out until the company called me the day before while on the cruise yet they did not know when the terminal bag storage would close 5 pm, we found out. However, I was not informed until a text the night before that there may be long lines to check bags at Pearl Harbor, which means you may miss your timed entry tour to the Arizona. A text I could not receive until the ship docked at 6 am the same day, too late for me to cancel without losing all the cost of the tour, which was due to start at 8 am. The tour operator I spoke to on the phone that morning was not helpful at all, especially when I explained that one reason I had booked the small group tour to begin with was because we had an elderly family member in a wheelchair, and we knew we would have our hands full looking after her.
Despite this bad beginning we took the tour anyway because there wasn't any other option. The first driver to Pearl Harbor was straightforward but not particularly engaging. There is only enough time to see the Arizona and browse a crowded museum, so if you really want to linger you will want a longer time there. we didn't. The saving grace was our wonderful second driver who drove us all over the North Shore and was incredibly kind and helpful to our elderly family member and to us. He explained many aspects of life in oahu and surfing, although unfortunately the big waves were not there that day. It is a long drive around and we were glad to just ride along and not worry about the driving. He also was very helpful in regards to our luggage, which we had elected to leave at the cruise ship terminal he took us back there after leaving Pearl harbor to pick it up so we wouldn't worry about getting back there before it closed. Unfortunately I cannot remember his name but he made the day worth it.
Pearl Harbor would have easily been done on my own. I was dropped off there and picked up later at a predetermined time and place.
The second portion of the tour was excellent. The driver/tour guide was friendly, had an amazingly broad range of knowledge, and exceeded our expectations. I hope he is typical and not an anomaly.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and the communication and professionalism of the drivers. Our first driver John texted us with the pick up time at the cruise terminal 8am and was on time. At Pearl Harbor, he showed us what to do and where to meet afterwards. Our next driver Chris was on time at the meeting place and was an excellent tour guide, taking us around parts of Honolulu and then out to the west and then north shore. He had us back to the airport at 5pm. We were looking for a tour that would pick up at the cruise ship terminal and drop off at the airport and this turned out to be an excellent choice. Highly recommend!
Our tour guide was super easy to have a convo with and he made an effort to actually get to know everyone. He gave us some pretty helpful hints at Pearl Harbor, like where to sit to get the best view, and knowing im a H50 fan he started pointing out places as we drove along where they have filmed.
