Biking on the beautiful and unique grounds gives a full appreciation of the property's size, and the huge amount of labor that went into the construction of the grounds in addition to the palace. Our guide,
Amore, did an excellent job explaining the history of the kings, queens, mistresses, and the house of Maria Antoinnette. Biking exertion was moderate, and easy to handle.Lunch on the canal was relaxing. If you wish to separately walk the gardens and pathways in the back of the palace, that is an extra fee of about 10 Euro.
As a skeptical New Yorker, I am always wary of 'tours'. This one, a day long bike tour of Versailles and visits to the Palace and other houses, surprised me in that it was (a) unbelievably informative, (b) easily manageable for the over-50 set (us), and (c) incredibly worth the value/cost. Our tour guide was Nicola, who was conversant in several languages (English for us), a font of historical information despite his relatively young age (26), and the most pleasant young man you could hope to meet. The tour consists of a train ride to Versailles, and then a pretty leisurely bicycle ride through the 200 acres or so that constitute the Palace grounds. The bicycle ride is punctuated by stops along the way where you tour various houses and the Palace, picnic (or, in the event of rain, eat at a restaurant), and listen to the guide tell you about what you are seeing. We went with our 20 year old daughter and had the best time. I would strongly recommend this for anyone who may not want just another museum visit.
Our guide Nina was simply amazing! She was so knowledgeable and was a great storyteller. She gave us such a thorough tour we felt as though we lived during the reign of the monarchy in France. Going by bike also allowed us to see the extensive grounds which was my favorite part of the tour. The market time was excellent with so many phenomenal food choices. We had a picnic along the canals before finishing the tour of the Hamlet, Petit Trianon and Grand Trianon. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour.
First have of tour fabulous with our guide Robin! Knowledgeable, fun and friendly. Bikes were easy to use and in good condition. Unfortunately the last stop was the Palace of Versailles where we waited 1.5 hours to get in...rejected skip the line tickets. Tired and extremely crowded. A bummer!
We had an amazing time on the tour and this was definitely a highlight of our time in Paris. Our guide, Cecilia was amazing! She was so knowledgeable and entertaining and made French history a lot of fun. The company did everything they could to ensure we got the full experience despite the palace being closed early for an unexpected diplomatic visit, rearranging our day and making sure that we got the most out of our trip. Cecilia went above and beyond, guiding our group through the gardens and making sure we all had a great day. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a day trip out of Paris!
This was one of the best excursions of our week long trip to Paris. The trip was well organized and informative. Martina, our guide, was a wealth of French history and had a lovely personality. The trip to the French Market and the picnic was one of most delicious meals we had on our trip. The bikes were easy and fun to maneuver and allowed us to see most of the beautiful Versailles estate. Thank you Blue Fox Travel for a very memorable trip!
