I’ve been on a few tours in different countries but this is one of the ones executed best! Full day of activities and really learned a lot about port wine making. We brought our 3yr old daughter along and she even had a good time. You ll get a view and an experience that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. Our guide João was wonderful! Totally worth the time and money.
It was a splendid day out, collected from our hotel at 8am and returned at around 1730. Our driver and guide Pedro was friendly and informative, the group was limited to 8 and we were driven in a comfortable Peugeout SUV. Both wiery trips were interesting and the lunch was traditional Portugese dish, with a choice of fish or meat. The scenery was stunning all topped off with a trip on the River.
Tiago was a fantastic guide, very friendly and accommodating and perfectly eager to share his knowledge. The day was very well planned out - exquisite scenery, a fantastic lunch, interesting vineyard visits and the cherry on the cake was the fabulous boat ride! Couldn’t have asked for more for a first visit along the Douro valley. Would highly recommend this trip!
We booked this tour not knowing it would be THE most magical day of our entire holiday in Portugal! We are still talking about it and will be for a long time. Our guide Miguel was amazing. His knowledge, explanations and conversations made the day for everyone in our group just perfect. A true gentleman. The tour itself provides a wonderful opportunity to see the most amazing sights and experience the best of the Douro Valley. The tour ran like clockwork and wherever we went there was something new to be learnt and enjoyed. I would highly recommend this tour!
This tour was a very nice introduction to the Douro Valley. We loved our guide, Tiago, and because it was a bit off season early November we had him all to ourselves! He was very knowledgeable and just an all round lovely person to spend the day with, and enjoy a lunch with. I would, however, change a few things about this tour. The tour says that you will visit two wine producers, which I was very excited about. The first winery was so pretty and the guide there was so informative. We tasted a Port and a red wine. The second was after lunch and our beautiful boat ride. This is the one I would change. It was not a winery at all. Instead, we had to drive up a treacherous mountain for almost a half hour in the rain to a very teeny, tiny town to a funky bar, that is referenced as a wine museum, because the owner created all of this crazy, bizarre art out of dried gourds, that are all over the place! He also happens to make his own Port wine, which he only serves at the bar and we got to taste, along with just so-so bread and olive oil from this village. While this experience was unique, I was so looking forward to a second winery, that I thought was indicated in the description! This bar would have been a fun stop if it were on the way to a winery, but NOT as a replacement. It was our only day in the Douro and we passed so many beautiful winemakers, that seemed like would have been a perfect afternoon choice over this bar.
Joao picked us up at our hotel as planned. As it turned out, we were the only couple in the group which made it nice for us. Joao was very enthusiastic and informative, and he has a great love for Porto and the area. We drove to the Douro Valley and stopped at a small privately owned winery for a tour and a tasting. What a nice experience! We visited Pinhao, took a boat ride, had lunch, learned about the history and struggles of the Port trade and enjoyed the magnificent scenery! Our last visit was to Croft's, where we enjoyed another tasting. This was a day to remember! Joao did a wonderful job in providing us with the best wine tasting experience. Thank you!
