We were collected by our very knowledgable and friendly guide from the hotel- he could not have been more helpful and interesting. The trip was amazing especially as we were lucky enough to be visiting Etna while she was erupting - we could hear the eruption that sounded like cannon fire then were covered in ash a few seconds afterward- going off road to see where the lava flows stopped from previous eruptions and visiting the caves created that had been used to store ice since made the trip.
The local Sicilian lunch was interesting as the restaurant had its own mini zoo with camels and lama! The food was pretty good too especially the home made yogurt- I am not a yogurt fan but this was delicious.
Thank you so much for your Review and for have described how the day was organized and what you have seen/made during the day.
Hope to see you soon in some other of our tours
See you soon in Sicily
We had an especially great tour. It was only the 4 of us on the full day tour to Mt Etna. Francesco was our guide. He was on time, courteous and extremely knowledgeable of Mt Etna. It happened to be an overcast day but we ventured thru forests, into old lava fields and a top a crater. The farmhouse lunch was a very nice and tasty end to a fun day! A must do adventure.
Fabulous tour! our guide was extremely knowledgable, tour was comprehensive, interesting and the lunch was just the frosting on the cake. My husband has a fascination for volcanos and our guide answered every question thoroughly and knowledgeably. This tour was definitely the highlight of our trip to Sicily.
Our wonderful driver/guide Mario picked us up in a 4X4 vehicle and so our journey began to Mt. Etna. As we drove toward Etna in the distance, Mario shared his knowledge of the area and the history of this active volcano. He literally took us off road so we would have the best views of the valley and surrounding areas. The volcano eruptions left a breathtaking lava aftermath everywhere you traveled. After driving on and trekking through the slopes of Mt. Etna we headed toward San Marco farm that was serving us lunch. While eating a most delicious meal and drinking wine that came from the vineyards on this property, we mentioned to our server how much we were enjoying this bountiful lunch. She said her Nonna was in the kitchen cooking it for us. That is exactly how it tasted like you were in someone's home. After lunch we walked around the beautiful grounds and then headed back to Taormina. A great day was had by all.
This was a fantastic family day, 4 adults, made even better by our driver / guide Mario who was not only informative about everything to do with mt etna and the impact of mt etna on the ecosystem but also attentive to our endless questions. It was, as advertised, a full day tour with mario arriving to the hotel on time at 8.30am and we returned about 5pm. The views and landscape were stunning and the food and wine at the local agritourismo delicious. Would strongly recommend this day trip to anyone remotely curious about geology, the environment, volcanoes, good food and wine! This is definitely a 'Bucket List' and a day to remember.
