We had a great day with Toru Kobata, our guide for the day. Clouds precluded a view of Mount Fuji on the boat trip but later, from higher up, it was magestically visible rising up above low cloud. The open air exhibition, and including the Picasso exhibits, were well worth visiting - even our two teenagers appreciated it.
Hakone is a very pleasant place, well worth the visit and journeys - we all enjoyed Toru's company too.
This tour was disappointing. Being a Saturday ,it was very crowded on the train out of Tokyo and the train up the hill - this could have been better if we had some reserved tickets for the romance train as described in the tour description but our guide had not done this and the train was full when we got to the station. Part of the cable car was not working and we had to take a bus instead which was so slow due to traffic that people walking overtook us. Another lengthy part of the journey. This information would have been available and it would have been preferable if we had known in advance and had the opportunity to postpone or cancel the trip. At the top the 'organic lunch' was absolutely dreadful food! The pirate ship transfer is corny but would have been worth it if we'd seen Mount Fuji but it was too cloudy. Our guide was a nice man but not very informative in comparison to the one we had on a tour around Tokyo who was amazing.
