It was packed and shoulder to shoulder but we expected that and no complaints. Our tour guide, Manuel (Manny) with City Wonders amazed me the way he was able to navigate and lead us through the through the throngs and deal with many inevitable interruptions yet still never losing the thread of the historical tale he narrated. Saw a lot. Learned a lot.
Fantastic attraction but try and avoid Tuesdays as Pris museums are closed so Versailles is extra busy. Do buy a queue jumper ticket with a guide otherwise you will queue for 2 hours plus
You also need at least a ful day for the Palace and the Gardens
Our Tour guide, Nev was excellent
I thought our guide himself did a sufficient job but we waited in line for an hour and a half possibly longer. Just know this going in, you definitely have a line and honestly I don’t think being tied to a group got us in any faster. I would suggest if you want to go on a tour pick a smaller group, this was about 24-27 people. If I had it to do over again I would either just tour it myself or pick a group with 15 or less people.
We experienced a very good tour of Versailles Palace & Gardens on Saturday afternoon 8 June 2019. Our guide Rubin from Spain was extremely knowledgeable and informative with a good sense of humor of the palace and gardens. Highly recommended. Mike and Maria from Australia
The tour of the Palace was excellent and skip the line was essential. However at the end of the tour our guide, Hugo, failed to give one of my party of 8, a ticket for the gardens. As a result, after the Versailles staff had contacted the tour company, City Wonders, I had to pay for another ticket to the gardens. We had only just entered the gardens, however, when I received a phone call from Viator/City Wonders, sincerely apologising and stating that they would refund my account with the price of the garden ticket. Later that afternoon I received an email from Viator apologising again and confirming that my account had been credited with the money. I have the philosophy that everyone can make mistakes but it is how they deal with those mistakes that separate a good company from a bad. Viator's response was outstanding and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. Certainly my party of eight will use them again. I have used Viator all over the world and have never been disappointed.
This was an excellent tour led by Adam, who is hilarious, engaging and informative. He is clearly an expert on Versailles and, more importantly, an expert at leading tours at Versailles. We arrived at 10:15am and easily found the tour group by the King Louis statue. From the meeting point, Adam took us to the group skip the line entrance - however - and this is the only reason this skip the line tour is a 4 stars and not a 5 stars - we still had to wait packed in like sardines at the skip the line group entrance for 30 minutes or so. It is not for the claustrophobic, but if you are claustrophobic, you probably could step away and not be so packed in while waiting. While waiting, Adam made sure to keep us engaged through our headsets with the story of Versailles and the French Revolution. Once inside, we were able to stop and use the restroom before officially beginning the tour inside the palace. The palace is BEAUTIFUL - definitely a must see - and Adam once again knew exactly how to keep our group moving through the crowd and knew the spots in the rooms to stop and tell us about the palace.
Following the tour, we were led outside to the gardens. The only other reason this is a 4 instead of a 5 is that we blew past the gift shop at the end of the tour - which is on the INSIDE of the palace - and we could not get back in to go to the gift shop after Adam ended the tour outside. He really should have included time in the gift shop inside because the gift shop outside the bookstore is not good for gifts - it's pretty much actual books and more expensive items.
Gardens: We splurged and rented a golf cart to help speed up our tour of the gardens, which we think was very much worth it after being on our feet for 3 hours. The gardens are massive and we wanted to make sure to get to Marie Antoinette's Village - which is under construction, so you can't go inside the buildings, but you can still walk around and experience the village and animals. We ended up needing more than the allotted first hour for the golf cart, so it did end up being more expensive than we planned we needed at least 90 minutes with the golf cart in the gardens.
This was one of the highlights of our trip. I expected a boring tour of a pretty palace, but our guide, Adam, was phenomenal! He brought the history to life with great color commentary. He knew what to showcase, and the best spots to view. He was very efficient in moving a large group though heavy crowds and was extremely personable and knowledgeable. If the weather had been better, I could have spent an entire day in just the gardens. Beautiful! Great tour!
