This was a great trip. The waterfalls were fun. But I think the visit to the town of Stein am Rhein was the highlight. It is very small but really adorable. You can take a quick walk through town and then go back to get some bread, cheese, meat, wine, ice cream, souvenirs, chocolate, etc. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and told us everything we could've wanted to know and more.
Bus location is quit easy to find. Public transit is the least expensive way to get to the bus terminal. Our taxi ride was costly. We really enjoyed the scenic ride to the falls. The Rhine falls are really beautiful.... not huge.. but still beautiful. Lots of stairs to climb at the falls. The town of Stein am Rhein is picturesque and lovely. I would recommend this tour to others. It is relaxing and easy going.
Value for money
Fantastic guide, (Maude) knowledgeable and very clear with directions, times, meeting points, she had amazing patience for those who struggled following directions!
We did waste a bit of time at Rhine falls waiting for stragglers as the guide needs to give each person an entry ticket, some had wandered off to bathroom and we couldn’t enter until we were an entire group - bit frustrating.
If you do the boat ride at extra cost of 10 CHF (which is fun) be aware there are many steps down to the boat and up again to the castle- if you have trouble with stairs give it a miss, also you will not have time to more than a cursory view of the castle. The falls are beautiful and powerful but don’t expect them to compare with Niagra, they’re just different and awesome on their own. The town of Rhein am Stein is a must, again there is only an hour here so either grab a bite to eat that you can walk with or sit at an outside eating place and sacrifice the opportunity of walking he cobblestones streets and visiting the little shops. The bus ride to and from is very comfortable and you get to see the many faces of Switzerland’s landscape from small agricultural farms, mountains, rivers, lakes and little towns. Multiple photo opportunities from inside the bus. This is good value for money and a nice way to spend a half day. Of course it would be nice to have more time at the 2 stopping points but if that’s what you think you want, take a full day trip. Loved it.
This tour was well worth the cost. Our guide was very informative and kept up commentary on the local surroundings. On the drive to the falls he explained about where we were going and what we would be seeing. At Rhine Falls he first led us down to the boat so that we could take a ride up close to the cascading falls. We then were given ample time on our own to explore the falls from the multiple vantage points. We then boarded the bus for a short trip to Stein am Rhein, a medieval village. Again we were given an hour or so to explore the town on our own. The sights included stunning frescoes on many timber frame houses. We would definitely recommend this tour.
Rhine Falls was beautiful, don't expect Niagra, but the photo platforms well done and a lift from river level back up to bus level. Stein am Rhein was a beautiful quintessential 14 - 17th century town. about a 2 block long wide inviting area, all comfortable shops. wish we could have stayed longer. Tour particulars, as bus, guide, pick up an drop off very well gone. We'll take more from Viator
