Incredible Experience! Our guide...

Incredible Experience! Our guide, Henry, was over the top good and a wealth of information - from literature and art to history and economics - which he shared with us as we traveled, in his clean, comfortable RAV4, from volcano park to museum and city to country towns. Learning about the poet, writer, diplomat Ruben Dario and his impact on Central and South America was itself worth the trip. The views of and from atop the volcanos and countryside were 'impressive' the architecture, museums and galleries were all memorable. But the high point for us was the visit to the private island paradise - Isla Zapongo, in the bay of Lake Nicaragua. Owner, Mauro and his wife picked us up at the hotel in Granada and gave us a guided tour of the bay on the boat trip to their island. Pointing out many points of natural beauty and interest, with emphasis on how the local people are working to preserve and improve the ecology of the area. Isla Zapongo, named by a prior owner, has been a labor of love over the past 10 years, which strives to preserve and enhance natural features while providing income to local residents who have accomplished all of the 'heavy lifting' using primarily locally available resources of volcanic rock and locally sourced wood and plant life. I must note that Nicaraguans thru out our visit were incredibly patient with two gringos who speak No Spanish...but who smiled a lot and said gracia even more. BIG Surprises were: the high quality of infrastructure like roads all well paved, not just the main roads, internet free/fast in town squares and plaza's thru out our trip, the sheer number of people who actually can Communicate in English - not just the young!, the cleanliness of the entire place with foliage remember this is the tropics cut back and cut down along ALL the roads we traveled, an almost complete absence of graffiti, even in the cities, and safe for us! to drink e.g. treated water everywhere we stopped or well as 'western style' and clean! toilets too. We hope to return in a few years to see how things have progressed.

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and companionable. We learned all about Managua, Leon, Old Leon, Masaya and Granada. It was a nice balance between driving and walking as well. The last day we got to go visit one of the islands on Lake Nicaragua. We wish it could have been for the whole day. It was fabulous, interesting and restful. We saw lots of birds too! What a great trip!

This was organized by ServiTours. Everything was on point. From the pick up at the Airport to the drop off at the hotel in Managua. We had some down time in Managua before Joe, a great guide took us to Leon and Granada for the following two days. He is super knowledgeable and great in English, as he has lived in the US. From there, we had a tour with Mauro to his island, Isla Zapongo where we were treated to a kayak ride. Also, Leonor was great at coordinating when I left a bag of souvenirs in Joe's Toyota RAV. Super nice and accessible via WhatsApp throughout the trip. Great for a short time! Highly recommended!

Wonderful experience. We were promptly picked up at the airport and taken to our hotel in Managua. There is not much to do or see in Managua. The next day our guide met us at the hotel and took us on a short tour of Managua and then into Leon. Our guide was very professional and provided us with an enormous amount of history. The next day we went to old Leon to visit ruins and then onto Granada. Granada was our favorite and the hotel was beautiful. The last day we went on a private island with another guide. That was truly a special experience especially the monkey on the island. We had an early departure and we were promptly picked up for airport transport.

Our 5 day Nicaraguan tour was wonderful! The guides (Martin and Juan Carlos) were both great! They were very friendly and knowledgeable. All guides and drivers were always on time. Hotels were excellent. The hotels in Leon and Granada were both located right next to the plazas in the middle of town. The boat/kayak trip on Lake Nicaragua was very scenic. We visited a private island with a tame pet monkey! The local vendor for viator was also able to provide us with a car and driver for our first day there in order to travel to the region of Boaco. It was a great side trip. Although it is not as popular a destination as Costa Rica, it is very interesting and worth visiting. Purchased gallon sized bottles of purified water in order to refill smaller bottles. You will go through a lot of water! We highly recommend this trip!

The tour was good overall except for one glitch. On our way to Granada, we stoppd in Massai and realised that a festival was taking place later on that day. We proceded to Granada and our tour guide told us that there is a visit to 2 museums on the program. We suggested that instead of the museums, we would rather go back to Massai to see the festival which is 10 or 15 minutes away. The guide came back to us saying that he spoke with the owner and he asked us to pay for the gas in order to go back to Massai.. I gave him $20 but I found it to be of poor judgement. The gas woul cost only $5 and since we don't want to go to the museums in Granada, that should make out for it.
