The tour was great from beginning to end. Our hotel pick up was there on time (we stayed at the Royalton Riviera Cancun). We were greeted by a lovely man who took us to the meeting place in an airconditioned van. Once there we had to wait a few minutes for the big tour bus to arrive - no big deal, better than going around multiple hotels collecting everyone. Once there we were greeted by the lovely tour guides Gerry and Carlos and the friendly bus driver Juan. I couldn’t say enough good things about them. They made us feel so welcome and made the effort to break the ice between everyone on the bus. Our first stop was Valladolid - a colonial town with beautiful buildings and a pretty town square. We were only given 30 minutes here, but it felt like it was enough and it was nice to get off the bus and stretch our legs. After this we went for lunch - we were given a welcome drink and a short food demonstration. We were served a homemade corn tortilla with pork pilpil and it was amazing. After the demonstration we could go souvenir shopping (i read a few reviews where people said they were being very pushy - i get that a little bit, but if you tell them that you’re ok or still looking they leave you be) and then had a buffet lunch. You don’t notice how hungry you get! Once finished at the food and souvenir stop point we went to Chitchen Itza. Before getting on the main bus they took the entrance money from us so there was no fuss buying tickets. We were split into two groups - English and Spanish speakers - great idea! Carlos was our guide through Chitchen Itza and was very knowledgable - he told us he grew up near Chitchen Itza and is from Mayan descent and you could really tell how passionate he was about it. Chitchen Itza itself is epic! Worth the visit for sure! I’d recommend reading up about it before you go to really appreciate it. We spent about 2 hours there - about an hour of it was a guided tour, the other half they let you explore on your own. After that we went to Cenote Ik Kil and it was absolutely amazing. It felt like paradise to us after the long day on the bus. The water was amazing - just the right temperature - and even though there were a lot of people there it didn’t feel too crowded. I’ve never seen anything like this in my whole life and will probably come back to Mexico to swim in these Cenotes again. Tip - bring snacks/water and towels(you can rent them at the cenote too) and tip the tour guides!!!

Dear Traveler, Let me thank you for all the good comments on the review, we want to thank you for visiting Mexico and choosing us for the experience. Thanks you for taking the time to give us a review and detailing the tour to encourage other travelers enjoy this adventure. We appreciate your comments of our guides, one of the most important things is to have certificate guides that will give you the best tour knowledge. We do the best so that you have the time to know the different places such as the churches with great architecture at Valladolid, one of the cenotes most visited by tourists for its great depth and the architectural zone of Chichen Itza that certainly you can’t miss the Mayan history that represents the Mexican culture so much. We work on service and this is our day by day; so when we receive a good review it reminds us that we are doing a good job and push us to be even better so thank you again. SAT MEXICO Team thank you for leaving your review and looking forward to serving you again. best wishes, SAT MEXICO Team

It was not perfect. But the tour guides and driver Jaun, Moses, and Carlos made up for the failures in the tour. Not enough time at the Cenotes or in the small town.

Dear Traveler, Thank you for taking the time to leaving a review, we hope this encourage other travelers to enjoy this adventure. Regarding your comments, we try to mantain timing according to comments, sometimes part of the group likes to spend more time on at Chichen itza, while other would preffer more time for Swimming on the cenote or doing shopping; so we try to mantain a balance, we are constantly updating times according to travelers reviews, since you dictate how you like things to be done. Great, knowledge plus pleasure. Long trip, so be patient. Mexican minute is longer than real time. Mr. Pech , our guide was of Mayan descend and numerology is in his blood. Be prepared to hear a lot of numbers connected to Mayan calendar.

I highly recommend this tour. Christian and the crew were really nice and provided us with some good knowledge. The day is long but so worth it. The pick up from our hotel was seamless. Our first stop was Valladolid. Then we went to Kaua for the Mayan cooking demonstration and was able to have lunch. After that we headed to Chichen Itza and finally Ik Kil. Wonderful tour, I am glad I booked it.

Our tour guide Luis G was very passionate and informative while on the tour. I was hesitant at it being only $45 and it saying it was a 12 hour tour BUT I feel the value surpassed the lower price point. In my opinion it could be priced higher but that's an entirely different point. I enjoyed Luis's commentary and all the sports were magical, especially the Ik Kil cenote. If you are in the Riviera Maya area and want to see Chichen Itza and the beautiful Ik Kil, this is the tour for you!

Very long day

From the moment we were picked up, we could tell this was a very well run and organised trip. The guides and drivers were great, and seemed very knowledgeable. The day however is EXTREMELY long, I wouldn't recommend this for young children. We started the morning with a 1 hour 45 minute drive to the town of Valladolid, which is beautiful, but a bit of a pointless stop on the tour as we were only allowed 25 minutes there. The next stop, I feel it was a little unexpected, as I believed that the lunch was at Chichen Itza. But we stopped in this Mayan Village and had like 40 minutes in a gift shop, where we were followed around by staff trying to convince us to buy things, there was some truly beautiful things in this shop, but a very long time, especially considering we didn't bring much money with us as the outline doesn't say there'll be any souvenir shopping. After this we were brought outside for a very drawn out cooking demonstration, that was just wrapping a piece of pork in a leaf. We were also given a green juice (delicious) and a taco. We were then brought for lunch, which was in a large canteen filled with people and a buffet. This was another place for your money, as not even water was included. Lunch was nice, but crowded. The next stop was Chichen Itza, arriving here is absolutely chaotic, you need to battle through people trying to sell you hats and umbrellas, the pathway lined with more souvenirs. This we felt really took away from the beauty of the attraction, it's one thing for souvenirs in the gift shop or outside the place, but with people coming up to you while you're trying to see this ancient construction it's quite off putting. There was FAR too much time allowed here also, as we were brought around by one of the guides it seemed to drag, we were there for about two hours, and were hot and fed up by the time we were leaving. Our highlight was the Ik Kil Cenote, the location for this and the way it's set up is great, and the cenote itself is breathtaking. It was so unfortunate we were only given an hour here, as there were queues for the changing facilities, and lockers, so by the time you actually get down to the swimming hole you're half an hour into your time slot, so you feel under pressure to get in and out as soon as possible. Could definitely do with two hours here.

We really enjoyed this 12-hour tour and highly recommend it for a fun-filled day! From our experience, here's what to expect: 7:30AM: A shared van picks you up at your hotel to transfer you to a big charter bus with a/c and bathroom. Once at the bus, they give you a ID lanyard or sticker and charge you the disclosed Chichen Itza tax ($23 pp). 10:00AM: After approximately 2 hours’ drive, filled with fun Mayan trivia, historical information and amicable jokes by the tour guide (our excellent guides were Ricardo and Maricela from EKNX Tours), we arrived at colonial town of Valladolid. We stayed for 30 minutes and enjoyed the San Servacio church, the town plaza and the little shops nearby. 11:00PM: Back at the bus and on our way to the Mayan shop and the lunch buffet. We stayed at the shop for about 30 minutes. Then we enjoyed a Mayan cuisine demonstration and tasting of handmade corn tortillas, cochinita pibil (slow-cooked pork) and a refreshing green juice. We then walked to the restaurant Tio Manolo (it's all in the same place) were we enjoyed an all you can eat buffet (pasta, rice, potatoes, fish, chicken fajitas, cochinita pibil pork, salad, soup, corn tortillas, and desserts). At the end, you only have to pay for the drinks you order and tip the waiters (please!). 2:30PM: Back at the bus and on our way to Chichen Itza, (7 minutes away). At the site we were provided with a bottle of water each and were guided by Maricela. However, at the end we decided to skip some of the tour to explore on our own. Free time to enjoy on your own is included but we wanted to take additional time to shop and take pictures, so we detoured. Chichen Itza is very hot! Bring a hat, umbrella, sunblock, water and comfortable shoes (not flip flops). 3:45PM: Back at the bus and on our way to Cenote Ik Kil (5 minutes away). You only have one hour at the cenote. We first went to rent the locker and get one life jacket for me. After a mandatory shower and descending 90 steps, we were amazed by this incredible 150 feet deep cenote. To get into the cenote there are 2 stairs to descend only and 2 to ascend only; there are two lifeguards enforcing this and watching over. Once in the water, I enjoyed every second of it. Some people were jumping into the cenote from about 6-8 feet above, and it was fun to watch. 5:00PM: Back to the bus and on your way back to the hotel (2-2.5 hours). If you were picked up in a van, you'll transfer to the same van, to get back to your hotel. Great tour!

We booked this tour a month in advance for a long birthday weekend, hoping Chichen Itza would be the highlight. Chichen Itza was worth having a look. Nothing else about this organized tour was worth getting there. 1) We thought (perhaps we misunderstood), our small-group tour bus arrived 15 minutes late and was full and had no a/c. Good thing, because we had a surprise transfer to a very large, fully cramped tour bus - it did have a/c that could not drown out the SCREAMING child in front of us for the entire 2.5 hours each way. The tour guide, Marco, didn't have any interest in quieting the child. There was only one infant (check the manifest). 2) Regarding Marco: He never shut UP for 8 of the 12 hour day. He gave some valuable info regarding Chichen Itza and much more information regarding how womens menstruation related to the Mayan Culture! That was a surprise, definitely TMI. 3) At each stop, we were asked for more money . One for a "Mayan" calendar that, funny enough, was the same price as the additional fee for the "tax" at Chichen Itza, two, and most offensive, was having to PAY for water/any other drink during the included lunch. Lunch is a sad buffet of limp potatoes, luke-warm rice, room temp chicken and other unknown dishes. However, the demonstration of making tortillas was welcome as the tortillas were very fresh and warm from a hot stone. Before leaving "lunch," the absolute insult was a wave of previously not seen staff, dropping large fish bowls on all table for tips. I don't know anyone in our vicinity who gave one tip - it was all do-it-yourself with no service of any kind. 4) Before the lunch, at the same stop, we were "herded" into an Original Mayan Good shop. We were given a micro shot of a honey liquor and then followed and HOUNDED for all 30 minutes to buy some. We didn't bite. Then, the staff followed us around the entire store trying to make a sale of authentic Mayan goods. i looked at a little statue and found the "Made in China" box just beneath! 5) The last stop on this day from hell, was the Il Kil Cenote. On arrival, we were notified that a locker and/or life vest is an "additional charge." SURPRISE! Not a lot of money; but, not expected. Finally, I asked Marco 3 times for help in finding a/c, stay on bus, or suggestions for getting out of heat, bugs, activity due to knee/wrist surgery. He ignored me every time. Thanks a lot!

Dear Traveler, We are very sorry that you got this impression from our company; we at SAT MEXICO have worked on customized vacation, during 25 years. Our clients from different countries have qualified us as one of the Best and more Reliable Tour Operators in Mexico. We have previous communications with your displeasure on mentioned excursion; we thank you and encourage your decision to make it public through this and hopefully more social media channels; feedback is the base of a good service company, and as they say “even bad advertising is still advertisement”. So again THANK YOU for taking the time. Regarding your comments, we are sorry for the time you wait for us, we try to maintain timing on pickups because of the long road to the places, but we also are flexible when clients are late to the pickup, we give 5 to 10 minutes of waiting them. We also have specific seats for persons with difficulties, nausea, dizziness, vertigo if you requires. Our guides are certificated to give you the more information and the best knowledge you can take of our Mayan culture, some themes are more punctuated when travelers ask about it more often. We are glad you could enjoy the tortilla demonstration and sorry you didn’t enjoy lunch, we have regular follow up of the food is served so you can enjoy a good meal. We'll take very seriously your comments to be better and again we apologize the bad experience you had, and please allow us to do better on a future occasion. Regards, SAT MEXICO Team.
