We took this yesterday and it was great. Walkabout Tours did a great job. Our guide Oliva did a great job. She was very informative and also did a great job keeping everyone on time. Our bus had children about 10 yrs old to teenagers, singles, couples and older couples. Our first stop was Sienna with a guided tour of the city and Cathedral. Next was lunch and wine tasting at a farm. The lunch served was excellent. Up next, was San G. Free time to explore this tiny town. This was my favorite stop. Pisa was next. We arrived at sunset but it was still beautiful. The field of miracles holds the baptistry, cathedral and tower. There is an option to climb the tower but we did not do this. This makes for a very long day and you walk a lot. But it is worth it. We would do this trip again
Perhaps it was the way it started, but this tour did not live up to its 5 star reviews. There was a marathon in town and it was raining, 2 barriers for a great experience. I understand that the team had to work around that, but our day started with a very long walk behind the train and bus station, over bridges and on main roads with pot holes, but no sidewalk, that made it impossible not to get wet. My feet were soaked and tired before the tour even started! We finally made it to the bus at close to 9 and got on our way. Siena itself was the only part I truly didn’t care for. Not the city, it was beautiful, but the tour guide. She was awful! Low speaker, kept losing her mic as it went in and out, no enthusiasm for her area, repeated the same information. To top it off, we had to substitute the museum for the cathedral because of a mass and she never waited for the group to get through the ticket line before she started talking. We would hear bits and pieces while she was around the corner. She didn’t wait to point out what relics she was explaining. It was very frustrating and Alessandro, our tour guide, knew there were a lot of frustrated people. He tried to re-explain on the bus but it was too late. We had already missed seeing things. The tour got better from there, with a wonderful lunch at the farm. The people were nice and the food was wonderful. It just felt like we were rushed the rest of the day to catch up from the bus leaving late. We didn’t get to walk through the vineyards or experience a wine tasting as promised in the tour description. Rather it was wine served with lunch, eat and leave, with 10 minutes to use the bathroom and buy from the shop. With 60+ plus people that was not enough time. The tour got much better from lunch on, but again, too rushed and a lot of walking with long distances between the buses and every destination. We’re ok with walking, but I imagine it would be difficult for many, especially up and down hills with wet shoes. Overall, an ok day. More acceptable when you’re on vacation and don’t want to ruin it with complaining, but really a frustrating day. Beautiful scenery, a nice lunch, and an upbeat tour guide made it better. However, take any one of those away and I would be asking for my money back. I feel as if they should have made the decision to at least tell people that the marathon was going on and that modifications had to be made. Then offer everyone the choice of canceling, rescheduling, or coming.
Sara and driver Antonio were amazing. The whole trip ran smoothly, we had a great time in every cities we visited. Since it is a winter time, I wish that the trip will start an hour earlier in the morning as the sun set around 5pm. I wish we had a longer stay in Siena and Pisa as these are the most happening cities; the stay in San Gimignano was over an hour but most stores were closed and the city was quiet. However the Gelato place that Sara suggested was the best gelato we have ever had during the trip.Overall, it was a wonderful day!
Bele, our guide, was an excellent and knowledgeable person. Her ability to share not only her love of her job but her joy in all we saw. The scenery needs to be seen to be believed. The food for lunch was not only excellent but also plentiful as was the wine. The gift shop provided some great gifts. This was a day I would love to repeat!
