Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum Guided Tour from Krakow | feb 2020
OVERVIEW: It's a place definitely worth visiting with a guide. Our guide was really great and very knowledgeable. Pick up was on time. You get a set of headphones connected to guide's microphone so you can hear everything she/he says without a problem. I have a hearing impairment and managed to hear every single word she said. It also feels respectful to the place (i.e. no shouting by different guides etc).
WORTH KNOWING: I thought I'm booking a trip of 8 people, but it's only transfer of 8 people. You later join a bigger group (about 25 of us) to walk around the camps. I really wanted to avoid going in a big group, that's why I chose this tour. So was a bit disappointed that the description is not exactly pointing that out. If we wouldn't be provided with headphones, I would definitely struggle to hear. I didn't see any small groups walking around, just large groups like mine or individual people without a guide. But it's all organised very well and the guides are the official Auschwitz guides and historians.
USEFUL TIPS: Wrap up if you go in the winter months! Its absolutely freezing! Also, make sure you pack your lunch and some drinks since the cafe there is extremely expensive (10zl for a KtiKat, 17zl for a drink, which is about 3x the regular price).
