Overzicht

Unorganised transportations of this day trip to Troy

Day Tour - Troy Tour from Istanbul | mrt 2020
Unorganised! When I left my hotel, till I arrived at Eceabat ferry pier, no one told me what was I going to. The driver from the hotel just dropped me at the bus terminal in Istanbul and gave me the coach seat number and he was gone away; once the coach left the bus terminal, a bus attendant asked me for a bus ticket to Çanakkale. I told him I booked a day trip to Troy. He said this coach only stop at Eceabat, and they wouldn't take me back to Istanbul nor provide any tour guide for me because the coach was kinda public bus only! I was shocked, then I called the number which Viator's confirmation email has stated it, but no one picked up my call! Since I couldn't do anything at that moment, the bus attendant asked me to call the tour company again once we arrived at Eceabat. Luckily, there was eventually a tour guide looked for me at Eceabat ferry pier. Viator and the tour company in Çanakkale should let me know the itinerary and to explain to me all the procedures but not keep everything secretly. I didn't know how it was going while I was in the coach at Istanbul. It was my first time to experience this mess! Besides, it stated my lunch was a seafood lunch in one of the restaurant in Eceabat, but turns out the lunch was provided in Çanakkale and it was NOT a seafood lunch! The tour guide did a good job to tell me and the other joining tourists about the history of Troy very precisely while we were in the Troy Ruins. However, we didn't even have time to visit a Trojan Horse from the Troy Movie in the city centre of Çanakkale, our van was just pass by this site, coz we needed to catch the ferry back to Eceabat where we have to transfer for another van back to Istanbul. It's really chaotically since I board the coach at Istanbul bus terminal in the morning on that day!

Do the two day tour!

2-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour from Istanbul | mrt 2020
Both days had very knowledgeable and experienced guides. Highly recommend you do the two day tour; many of my fellow group members signed up for only one day and lamented the 4.5 hour drive from Istanbul, the 4 hour tour (Gallipoli or Troy) then 4.5 hours back to Istanbul on the bus. Go for the two day tour and see both! Plan for windy weather in Troy (on average 280 days per year).

2-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour from Istanbul | mrt 2020
Gallipoli was amazing and well worth the trip down! We also enjoyed our night over at Canakkale, what a nice town, and the accommodation was fine. The trip was very long and wouldn’t recommend it for a one day trip, however with the night stop over was very manageable. The Troy tour was quite short in time and not as well put together as the Gallipoli tour, I don’t think we would have been happy had we only booked for the one tour, but Gallipoli really saved it. All tour guides were great. Overall would recommend

2-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour from Istanbul | feb 2020
Great trip with Noursedah (spelling?) and driver Mustapha. We had a smooth trip to Gallipoli and learnt a lot while there. The maritime museum in Canakkale was very interesting and well laid out. This morning we explored Troy, which was amazing. Excellent meals, guide and driver.

2-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour from Istanbul | feb 2020
Great trip. Guide was very knowledgable and informative, was always very pleasant and friendly and spoke very good English. Meal breaks were very good (especially lunch on the 2nd day) and the accommodation at the overnight stop in Çanakkale was Of a high standard.

A very good trip but too short a visit to the ruins of Troy!

Day Tour - Troy Tour from Istanbul | dec 2019
We made our trip on Dec 12, 2019. The organisation was perfect: communication, pick up and drop off at our hotel, transportation, lunch, guidance during transportation, etc. Our guide in situ however didn't answer to this standard. He appeared to be a competent man, but his attitude was not at all conform. During the entire visit he gave the impression he wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible by rattling off his comment and constantly running metres ahead of us. By doing so he pulled down completely the level of the trip. That's the reason why rating the trip we leave it at 'average'. Understandable because the visit of the ruins of Troy was precisely the purpose of our trip.

I am sorry to say that this was a very dissapointing experience. The guide had poor english, didn't give any background on the place and limited to visit the different areas and read the panels. That could have been done without a guide.

Gallipoli Day Trip from Istanbul | nov 2019
As Australians, my wife and I had always wanted to visit Gallipoli and it did not disappoint. All the sites were amazing and John (our guide) was informative, helpful and all round nice guy. The day is definitely long (4.5 hour drive one way from Istanbul) but we never felt rushed whilst we were in Gallipoli and had ample time to ponder and wander around taking photos. Highly recommend!

7-Night Turkey Highlights from Istanbul with Ephesus and Cappadocia | nov 2019
Excellent attention from VIATOR to buy the tour. Lousy coordination between VIATOR and FEZ travel, since I hired a service in Spanish and they gave it to me in English. Nurseda from FEZ: EXCELLENT In addition, Feysa from Fez Travel said they would pick us up at 7:30 and they passed until 1:00 p.m. The tour guide very friendly and knowledgeable, only very lazy, as he gave directions when we arrived to some places and told us “see you at xx hours” without leading us and explaining ourselves in some places, only in those where we could buy something (rugs, jewelry, pottery). A lot of time was lost in the places where they took us to buy rugs, jewelry and pottery. Good hotels.

Gallipoli Day Trip from Istanbul | okt 2019
Burak was a fabulous and knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humour, especially of Australian and New Zealand slang/ phrases. He gave a very thorough run through of Gallipoli and world war 1 with a specific focus on the ANZACs and clarified many details around the landing that I was not aware of. The Gallipoli tour itself was great. It would have been helpful if the driver that picked us up from Istanbul had given us an update on how the day would run as this was not mentioned until we got to the local town. Otherwise, highly recommend!
