This tour is really fantastic. The Korean Folk Village is not habited but does have a tremendous display of the stylistic elements of traditional Korean architecture and wares. We really enjoyed learning about the structure of the houses and seeing the various displays that the village put on - including a great folk music demonstration. Our guide was really knowledgeable and able to take us through the entire village answering all questions.
We had lunch at a traditional tofu style restaurant just outside the village but they did serve a nice pork cutlet for those who are not fans of tofu. It was traditional in every sense of the word which we really enjoyed. Shoes off at the door, sitting on the floor, and various side dishes to share between us all.
Then we were taken out to the Hwaesong Fortress where we stopped to walk the wall and have a view of the surrounding city and learn the history of the Fortress. Then we went into the Hwaesong Palace and learned all about the differences in Palace colors and structure.
Best of all was how engaging our guide was. He spoke constantly giving us great history and background, both modern and ancient, of everything we were seeing. He was great in taking photos and actually getting us both into a photo which for my boyfriend is often near impossible. Had a great time with him and luckily, our second trip, we had the same guide!
