Our tour guides, Violet and Maximo, were were wonderfully informed and very entertaining. The local guide obviously knew a lot about Pompeii but had a terrible delivery. For two hours, she droned on like a machine. We were fine for the first twenty minutes but after that, we couldn't follow her.
We had three other outstanding tours with this same tour operator: the Sistine Chapel, the Borghese Museum, and the Collosium. The guides were so well-informed and enthusiastic. This tour was just a mistake for us to have taken.
We travel abroad one week each year and will continue to use Viator. This one local guide just didn't understand how to make a presentation.
This tour was the best that I have ever taken in many years of travel. The guide loved her topic and enjoyed her work. We took this particular tour because friends complained of other tours where they stood like statues in the Sistine Chapel because it was so crowded.
Our small group literally had the entire chapel to ourselves for about thirty minutes. We were also shocked when the lights came on because the workers were preparing for the Pope. That doesn't normally happen because lights harm the paint.
Our guide walked from one end of the chapel to the other, pointing out and explaining the meaning of each panel.
We were so impressed by the local supplier guides that we are considering taking some art history courses at our local university.
We would have missed so much had we just walked through the colosseum and ruins on our own. This tour is a perfect example of travel as an educational experience. The guide had a wonderful interesting and entertaining manner of presentation.
