Localizada no coração de Les Baux de Provence, a Igreja de São Vicente (Eglise São Vicente) é um dos marcos históricos mais charmosos da vila e um fascinante resquício de seu passado troglodita. Datada do século 12, a igreja lindamente preservada é mais notável por seu design único cortado na rocha, parcialmente esculpido na encosta e mantendo uma atmosfera única de caverna.

Por trás de sua humilde fachada de tijolos de pedra, a pequena igreja oferece um vislumbre fascinante do passado, com suas três capelas em cavernas, pia batismal esculpida na rocha e impressionantes vitrais. Ainda uma igreja ativa, São Vicente hospeda cultos diários ao longo do ano, mas o momento mais popular para visitar é para a Missa da meia-noite em 24 de dezembro, quando a igreja hospeda uma cerimônia tradicional de pastelaria.

How to get there

Les Baux-de-Provence is located atop a rocky precipice nine miles (15 kilometers) from Arles and 16 miles (25 kilometers) from Avignon and the St. Vincent Church is located towards the top of the village. Public transportation is limited in this area so plan to rent a car or explore the village on a guided tour.

Considered one of the most beautiful villages in all of France, Les Baux de Provence is overflowing with tourists during the summer months so visit during the off-season if you can. If you do visit in summer, opt for an early morning or late afternoon visit to avoid the crowds.

The ruins of the Medieval fortress of Château des Baux des Provence are a must-see for first-time visitors to Les Baux. The ruins are perched high on a rocky summit affording panoramic views of the olive groves and vineyards of the Camargue. Just outside the village of Les Baux de Provence, the Carrières de Lumières is a unique multimedia art show where famous paintings are set to music and projected onto massive rock walls of a former limestone quarry for a total immersive art experience.
