I was actually kind of disappointed by this tour. Everyone else on the tour was only doing one day and when we were picked up from our hotel the Tour company was shocked that we had bags and they said there was no room in the van to take them. Obviously that wasn't an option, so we smashed our bags in there and proceeded to Chichen Itza.
The tour guide was horrible. He seemed annoyed we were spending the night there and was ll around boring and difficult to understand. He kept talking about dates and origins of words but couldn't answer any questions asked of him. The lunch was buffet, not very good. The whole time people are trying to sell you things, the dancers want tips, people want you to buy Mayan calendars etc.
The Mayaland Resort looked like the place was nice about 20 years ago and they haven't paid much on the upkeep. There is one restaurant which is pretty expensive. The room they put us in first was clean but very outdated and had two beds, they said we had to pay more for one bed (we were on our honeymoon). The kicker was that construction was directly above us, very loud pounding. When we asked the front desk they were very accommodating and even upgraded us. The next room was much nicer but not worth what they were charging. The lack of hot water for showers also made us uncomfortable. We made the best of it, but I would not recommend this to anyone else.
very nice tour - guide very knowledgable
hotel was excellent although on this two day venture, dinner should also be provided and breakfast on day two or lunch (brunch) It would make the package more attractive and the cost would be minimal as opposed to paying out of pocket once there. The botanical gardens which we were interested in apparently (as we were told by a staff member) was not worth walking the distance to see. So upgrading there would be most beneficial. The evening show at the observatory was wonderful and we just wanted more as it ended far too soon. All in all, a very pleasant, interesting and educational experience
