We come to Cancun a lot and have done the usual tours of Tulum, snorkeling, zip lining, etc. We wanted something different, and this tour fit the bill! We had an amazing tour with Tiago. We took the R1 bus from the hotel zone for 1 per person. Just tell your driver you want to get off at Mercado 23. We got there about an hour early and wandered around the market. This is where the locals shop and eat which is exactly why we wanted to go there. We started out tasting produce and then moved onto tamales, tacos, fried pork, etc. While we would have stumbled onto the tacos by ourselves, most of the dishes we sampled were unusual, and we would never have found them on our own. When we were finished, Tiago walked us to the bus and told the driver the name of our hotel. It was a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend it! Tiago also has a restaurant called Mostaza that looks amazing as well. Hopefully, we can find time to try that during our stay.
Really glad I did this and highly recommend it to anyone interested in local food and cuisine in Cancun. My only suggestion would be a slightly more structured approach, maybe include a brief on each of things you're eating, common uses, how to etc. Other than that it was great.
Awesome! Great way to see another side of Cancun and learn about local products. Chef Tiago was kind and accommodating. Great products to sample and purchase. Try the castacan: fried pork belly. I wish we had stayed longer. Kid friendly. Lasts about 2 hours.
We really enjoyed leaving the tourist zone and going a little further into Cancun to see the market and culture there. Our guide was knowledgeable, spoke English very well and did not rush us through the tour. We enjoyed trying many different ethnic foods, new fruits and drinks we wouldn't get to experience in the USA. We also enjoyed seeing the various vendors in the market. There was so much variety, prices were really good and everyone was very friendly. Our transportation to and from the hotel was on-time and air-conditioned. I would recommend this tour for an experience a little more genuine to Mexican culture. We loved it!
We booked this tour and couldn't stop talking about it while traveling in Cancun for our anniversary. Most told us Mercado 23 wasn't a typical tourist attraction, and that's exactly why we booked it. Chef Tiago was a great guide, described the local food, some of which we were familiar with, and happy to find some new things. The instructions said eat a light breakfast, but after trying some tamales, I immediately wished I hadn't eaten anything before the tour. There really wasn't much structure to the tour, but we actually liked being able to direct what we wanted to see. We didn't stop in any of the little shops to purchase clothing or trinkets, just ate....and ate....and ate some more. My husband raved over the stall that served carnitas tacos, and was disappointed we didn't have time to go back the next day! Thank you Chef Tiago for a wonderful experience!
