Ian from African Moon Adventures picked us up right on time and took us for an amazing day along the Cape and for wine tasting! We made many stops driving through the Cape so we could take pictures. Ian new the best places to stop and the scenery was incredible. The drive along the coast is absolutely breathtaking. Ian told us about all the different bays we were stopping at, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Noordhoek, kommetjie where we saw surfers, cape point, False Bay, etc... we stopped at an ostrich farm where we got to hand feed them! Then we went to Cape Point and Ian even made us tea and coffee with biscuits at the south western most point! What a great memory! We then went up the funicular, just a short ride, to the top lighthouse. The views were incredible and Ian was more than happy to take way to many pictures of us. We then headed to Simons Town to see the penguins! That was so great and again the view was incredible. We then had lunch at a local restaurant which was nice and had a view as well. We stopped at a few more places to see a shark spotting point and then to see a couple seals close up on a market pier! We then went in search of wine! We had four wine tastings at Constantia Glen. The backdrop was beautiful and we sat outside in the perfect afternoon weather. Ian then dropped us back at our hotel. It was a great day and great memory. Thanks so much Ian!
We were lucky and had the tour all to ourselves with the owner, Ian. Ian was fantastic, very informative and personable, and genuinely fun to be with. He took us on a tour down the coast, in the opposite direction most tours operate, so the timing allowed us to enjoy the activities with minimal other tourists jam packing the site. Lovely towns along the coast, a stop at the Cape Reserve and Cape of Good Hope where we saw the lighthouse and baboons walking around, fed the ostriches at an ostrich farm, enjoyed the penguins up close at Boulder Beach and finished the day at a lovely winery for tastings. Ian even tailgated on the beach at the Cape, with tea and biscuits, brewed up on a hot plate. It was typical of the thoughtful touches he put on the tour. We highly recommend Ian and African Moon Adventures!
I had a wonderful day in Cape Town and the Peninsula. The happiest surprise of my tour.
Our guide made is a point to stay ahead of big tourist buses so we had most of the sites to ourselves. He was honest, knowledgeable and funny.
The tour itself is packed with interesting sites, much more than I expected.
I now need to plan on spending more time on a future trip to Cape Town.
A brilliant day from start to finish. Ian the company owner provided an a la carte experience for the 4 of us and nothing was too much trouble in terms of flexibility - his mantra was this is your tour. Ian's lovely Ford air conditioned van in pristine condition picked us up on time and procedded along the coast road towards Cape Point. Ian is a local and has an engaging, warm personality combined with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the area which was beautifully communicated. The ostrich Farm visit was an unexpected highlight and the experience at Cape Point was unforgettable, topped off with a lovely cuppa with biscuits on the beach prepared by Ian. It was little touches like this which made this a stand out day. The Cape has a severe water shortage at the moment and some toilet breaks had no running water - no problem - Ian provided individual anti- bacterial hand gel! Our group decided to walk upto the Cape Point lighthouse which provided great views of the coastline, especially Dias Beach. Proceeding to Boulders Beach to see the jackass penguins was brilliant - we never expected to see so many , so close and in what was a natural environment - absolutely memorable!
Lunch at the Salty Dog in Simonstown was another experience not to forget with a superbly cooked hake and chips hitting the spot!
The drive back to Cape Town culminated in a wine tasting stop at Klein Constantia which was a smaller but high end winery. We all enjoyed this immensely and all the 5 wines provided were high end. Upon leaving Ian at our hotel, we felt that we had made a real mate in Ian and we will certainly work with him again when we return to Cape Town. This full day trip is very highly recommended - it might not be the cheapest but I'm sure it's the best from what we saw of other vehicles and tours - you might only do this once so choose the best!
This was an outstanding tour. Our tour guide Ian went out of his way to give us information, include things not on the itinerary, take photos and post them, offer restaurant advice and share beautiful Capetown. We highly recommend this professionally executed tour.
