My husband and I took a 3:00 cruise for 90 minutes on Saturday March 16th, 2019. This was the first time my husband had ever been in the harbor and ever seen the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island. The cruise was definitely overbooked considering temperature and wind chill, putting someone in every seat, including the outdoor not enclosed sections of the boat. Because it was very cold and windy the people that chose seats on the outside open areas of the boat soon came inside and were standing around inside without any seats to sit down in because they were already also full. Vision was blocked continually for everyone that was sitting in their seats in the enclosed section do to people standing. Even when the tour guide ask people to sit down they continued to stand and walk around blocking window views for those of us seated in the enclosed area. Also all of the glass windows were filthy and impaired viewing of the tourist sites that we were trying to see along the way. And finally the tour guide talked virtually non-stop giving out information that was overkill and unnecessary. He also acted as if he was a comedian in a show, and continually made jokes and body language to try to get attention on himself, and it was not received very well from the tourists on board. A tour guide should not be on board a cruise ship for personal attention and building up his ego.
The tour was nice. We bought the premiere seating based on other reviews, but I felt we could've done without it because during the tour everyone can get a good view of the landmarks. The premier seating just had better chairs, you received free cookies, and the servers came to you to take your order.
This is a great way to see the city from a different perspective- we went with the VIP upgrade - this gave us very good seats and a server who got us our drinks to save joining the queue downstairs as well as a bag of cookies to take away with us! The guide, David, was very knowledgeable and pointed out all the sights with humour, he was quite a character. It was a very worthwhile trip, highly recommended
