Hi Larry, Thanks for the 5 star review! It was a great day and you were part of a great group. 'One of the best excursions' - brilliant, Haste Ye Back!
Penguin Reserve and albatross sighting - it flew directly overhead several times.
Rhonda_G, mar. de 2020
Our group of 4 from Canada was thrilled with our tour. Pickup and drop-off from the cruise terminal was seamless. Our guide Glen was outstanding!! He was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and thoughtful as a result the entire day was amazing. The choice of venues was just what we wanted and time spent at each venue was appropriate. We would not hesitate to use your company if we should ever have the opportunity to revisit New Zealand. Thank You.
Wildlife and fabulous views!

Our guide Ben was fantastic and his enthusiasm about the area and the wildlife was contagious. We were able to see many penguins, seals and even some albatross. The van was very comfortable and the views were amazing!! I highly recommend this tour!!

Daniel was a great guide and we enjoyed every minute of this absolutely fantastic tour! There was plenty of time at each stop to get pictures and enjoy the experience!
Resposta do host, mar. de 2020
Hi Frederi, Daniel has been working for Back to Nature Tours for several years, these days he is a full time Physio so we only get him on tour 4-5 times a season - great to see you enjoyed your time with the veteran. Your're a Back to Nature Tours Legend - if any of your family or friends come back to NZ make sure you get in touch for some special 'clan rates'. Haste Ye Back!
a brilliant day of wildlife
Barbara_Y, mar. de 2020
This was an excellent tour. Our tour guide, Ben, was fantastic. He was a fount of information about the wildlife and where to find sea lions, seals, a huge range of birds. The visit to the albatross centre at the end of the tour was the highlight. The albatrosses came soaring in from the sea towards their nesting sites right over our heads. However the penguin centre visit was also really enjoyable and informative and included a lovely walk. Dunedin and Larnach Castle were also pleasant and interesting but for me the wildlife was the best.
Resposta do host, mar. de 2020

There's nothing like a beautiful walk to see rare wildlife. Your're a Back to Nature Legend, Haste Ye Back!

Ben was a great guide for what turned out to be an almost private group of four! Tour is just what was described and Ben was engaging and friend,y throughout!

Great tour!
Ken_B, fev. de 2020
Great tour. The itinerary was exactly what we were looking for. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable. A smaller group is definitely the way to go!
Resposta do host, mar. de 2020
Hi Ken_B, This itinerary was put together back in 2006 with the idea of letting independent travelers join a tour that was comprehensive with a great balance of nature and heritage, two things Dunedin is well know for. In those days there weren't many companies in New Zealand offering 'shared group' tours for cruisers, most sold products that were for exclusive groups. This tour soon became very popular because it was reasonably priced and had a comprehensive itinerary - the tour you went on was and is the original 'Back to Nature Tour' - we're glad you chose us! Your're a Back to Nature Tours Legend Haste Ye Back!
Great Tour

Had a wonderful day touring the Larnach Castle and viewing the Otago Peninsular. We enjoyed the lovely gardens at the Castle, and seeing the inside of the Castle. Our tour guide Glen was excellent. We got to see an abundance of wildlife. The scones are highly recommended at the Castles cafe.
Resposta do host, mar. de 2020
Hi Richard, Great to hear you enjoyed your time here. Glenn is a great guide that really enjoys showing our guests Dunedin and the Otago Peninisula in particular. I haven't tried the scones at the castle, i'll be there tomorrow and that's exactly what I'm going to order! Your a Back to Nature Legend! Haste Ye Back!
Most knowledgeable tour guide
moconnell20, fev. de 2020
Ben met us in the terminal and the fun began. He was so knowledgeable. Knowing I was on cruthes, he furnished me an extra step to get on and off the van. I so enjoyed the penguins even though I only saw them in the nursury. Missed seeing a flying albatros but all the other wildlife he pointed out and gave us time for photographs was excellent. Best ever tour guide on the cruise.
Resposta do host, fev. de 2020
Hi moconne, Thanks for the kind review - great to hear you had a fun day out with Ben. We often get clients that are a little less mobile than others so we make sure they are well looked after - its all part of the southern welcome! Best tour guide on your cruise is a great call - I'll pass that on. Your a Back to Nature legend, Haste Ye Back!

A stand-out tour and tour leader!
sandifawcett, jan. de 2020
This was a great excursion from our cruise on Celebrity Solstice in January 2020. It was a small group tour (18) and the meeting point was just a few paces from the ship's docking area. The thing that really made it such an interesting and enjoyable tour was our driver/escort/leader/host Ben. His wealth of knowledge about New Zealand in general; the areas we visited and particularly the birds we saw; the ecosystem and reasons why certain birds were in danger of extinction and what was being done/had been done to reduce the risks. He was passionate about the conservation of these birds and in particular the yellow eyed penguins. The sanctuary for these was amazing but sadly, my husband is disabled and we couldn't participate in the walk looking for these lovely creatures in their secure habitat. However, we were able to see some who were being looked after in a little "nursing home" for various reasons. They are lovely birds unique to New Zealand with a really cute call. There is a terrace at reception where you can get cold or hot drinks and a shop where you can buy souvenirs and read even further information and look at photographs about the history of the privately-owned sanctuary and its work and mission statement. All the information that Ben shared with us in the bus and at our stops was delivered in a lively and often amusing way and he was able to give some very full and interesting answers to any questions we asked. We had plenty of interesting stops and a one hour stop at Larnach Castle for lunch where there was plenty of outside seating in the extensive gardens in the sun. Unfortunately we were unlucky with our final stop at the Royal Albatross Centre as none of its residents put in an appearance and we had to dash back to the bus as the weather broke and we experienced monsoon-like rain, thunder and lightning! A wonderful day out and an enormous thank you to Ben, undoubtedly the host with the most!! Highly recommended.

Nice bus tour of Dunedin and Otago
mdlaheymd, jan. de 2020
We had a nice car tour of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. Our tour guide was Glen who shared a lot of local knowledge. We enjoyed the small bus and pretty scenery. The penguin rescue and reserve was definitely enlightening. A good choice for Dunedin. We could have spent days there.
Resposta do host, fev. de 2020
Hi mdlahe, Thanks for taking the time to write a review - we'll pass your regards onto Glenn.
A Great Day Out!
Sharon_W, mai. de 2019
We really enjoyed our tour of Dunedin and Otago Peninsula. Ollie was an interesting and informative guide. As someone, who likes to take photos, I was really happy that we stopped several times and had the opportunity to take photos. We were lucky enough to see the yellow-eyed penguins malting and hiding in the bush.
Great tour
James_W, abr. de 2019
Ben our driver and guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He even took us on a slight detour so we could see sea lions. Due to the mid April date of our tour, there were only a few penguins remaining in the natural habitat section as the rest had already left for the season. We also saw several penguins in the rehabilitation centre.
Very nice Dunedin tour
jeffho56, abr. de 2019
Our guide was very well informed - knew the background information for each site and more. Really enjoyed the Yellow- Eyed Penguins at Penguin Place - got really up close and personal with them. Overall, a very enjoyable tour.
Great Day

Christine_B, mai. de 2018
The tour was great. The only reason I gave it a four was because Ollie, the leader, did not have a microphone and he was difficult to hear in the back. This was a small group tour so we could ask lots of questions. My favorite stop was the Penguin Place where we learned about penguins and took a walk to see where they nested on the shore. The Castle was beautiful and we were lucky enough to see albatross flying at the Royal Albatross Center.
