This trip was absolutely great, our guide Stefano was extremely knowledgeable and very respectful of the turtles, which enabled us to watch them up close, but with no disruption to the turtles themselves. We saw three in total, two laying eggs up close and watching them come up onto the beach from a distance too.
Highly recommended, but if you do go please ensure you go with a guide, and especially respect the turtles and follow your guides rules as they are sensitive to light and must not be disturbed. We did observe some individuals not on a guided excursion with a lack of education on how to behave around the turtles, which was a shame but hopefully a rare occurrence!
Definitely go if you're in Sal during turtle season! Also a top tip: follow this excursion up with a trip to the Turtle Sanctuary in front of the Hotel Riu Palace the next day to see the great conservation work being done. We arrived there around 5pm and got to hear a free talk from the team, and also see baby turtles being collected and released. The turtle sanctury talk was free, do give a donation!
