When you are visiting Reykjavik Iceland, you must sign up for Gateway to Iceland tours, this one, hot golden circle, was one of the best I've ever been on, anywhere and I travel a lot. Our guide and driver, Andreas, was so great, helpful, knowledgeable, offered additional recommendations for Reykjavik including where I can get my cellphone SIM repaired. This Gateway to Iceland company is so professional. You must, must book with this company for one of their tours. I booked it so easily through viator, and TripAdvisor. It's my first trip to Iceland and enjoyed the tour with this great company. Take it from Jan in New York, loved everything this tour was. Many thanks to Viator and TripAdvisor! They make everything so easy and great customer service by phone and online as well.
We started our trip with this tour and it provided great background information about Iceland and the geography. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and it was nice having a small group instead of a large tour bus which some tours had (we had a medium-sized van). It was a nice mix of site-seeing, listening to information, walking, eating, and swimming!
Our tour guide Bjorn was amazing! He was very knowledgeable about Icelandic history made made it fun with his awesome sense of humor. We saw a lot of incredible sights but never felt rushed. We will definitely do this tour again when we return.
We only had a short time in Iceland and this tour suited us. We prefer small groups and our guide Gummi was excellent. We enjoyed the waterfalls, geysers and the interesting information, stories, etc. told by Gummi.
Our guide David was awesome. He was genuinely very funny. Not in a scripted kind of way, but in a very natural way. He was entertaining and made the trip fly by quickly. The details he gave us about locations and information about Icelandic culture and society were much more nuanced than any of my other tours. You could tell that he really cares about doing the best job he can and that he really thinks about what would be the best experience for the guests. A good example is how he basically did our tour in a backwards order than most of the other companies in order to avoid huge crowds. Thanks to this we had a few stops at locations where it was literally just our small bus of 11 or so guests. This made visiting those locations a much more personal experience. He even gave us tons of advice on other places to go and see. I was in Reykjavik by myself and I asked him if he had a good recommendation for a place to get some lamb for dinner since it was my last night there. He literally took about ten minutes of his own time just to check up on places he knew in order to find me the best place. That tour was the perfect way to end my trip to Reykjavik and the place he suggested for dinner was the icing on the cake. This man deserves a raise. Thanks!Lyndon
I really enjoyed this tour other than the lunch stop. I assumed we were going to stop at one of the cafeterias at the sites but we ended up at a tourist stop in the middle of nowhere ( even though the guide said it wasn’t a tourist trap). The only options were a salad/pizza bar or limited a la carte menu. It was so hectic and clear that they couldn’t handle the volume of people. There was no lettuce when we arrived and the smallest selection of salad fixings I have ever seen. And on top of that, it was 2,500 isk per person. A sandwich at one of the cafeterias would have been 750. This shouldn’t detract from the tour because it was otherwise great and guide was friendly and informative but I would recommend packing provisions from the grocery store just in case.
