Even though we visited the zoo in the winter we were still able to see all the animals close up and have taken some amazing photos. The zoo is easy to get to as the tube station is nearby and is just a short walk away. We spent 3 hours wandering round at our own leisure even finding time to stop and warm up in one of the many cafes for coffee and sachertorte.
A must do if you have children and a good trip even if you don't. Something for all ages to enjoy.
The giant ferris wheel is also a must as The views over Vienna are amazing and a definate for The photographers among you.
You start with a room which houses glass cases showing the history of the wheel , then it's photo time where you will, have some photos taken and can purchase if you wish when the ride is complete.
Time for the ride the carriages have approx 15 people in at a time and there is a bench to sit down on if that's the way you prefer the majority stand to experience the beautiful city and the amusement park below.
Well organised and definately worth the 10 euros per adult that is charged.
We enjoyed our visit to the zoo and seeing the pandas was a highlight of our trip for our daughter. This particular pairing of the Zoo and the Giant Ferris Wheel however, did not make much sense. We didn't realize it until we got to Vienna and planned out our time there that the Zoo is on the opposite side of the city than Prater and the Ferris Wheel. We had limited time in Vienna and knowing now, we would not have purchased this combination. The Ferris Wheel alone is not worth the trip but is a nice attraction if you are planning to go to Prater anyway.
We went to the Schonbrunn Zoo and Prater Park where the Giant Ferris Wheel is on Christmas Eve day. We had no lines to queue which was nice. The zoo was a lot bigger zoo than I thought it would be and had a wonderful tropical animal area. We were unable to see a lot of the outdoor animals due to it being winter but we got to see one of the panda's which was awesome. The Giant Ferris Wheel was very enjoyable and both activities were a great value.
