Estancia Alice (El Galpon Del Glaciar)

Entrada gratuita

The basics

You can either visit for the day or book to stay overnight at this traditional Patagonian homestead. A day at the ranch gives you the chance to observe sheep-shearing demonstrations and flock-gathering exercises operated by the farm’s team of well-trained kelpie sheepdogs and border collies. More than 30 different types of bird can be spotted from the birding hides at the estancia, and birdwatching is a very popular pursuit here.

When to get there

Estancia Alice is open year-round, and although peak season in Patagonia runs from November through March due to the warm, dry weather, you’re unlikely to see big crowds here, no matter when you visit. Advance booking is recommended due to the ranch’s remote location.

The End of the World

Due to its position in Patagonia, which serves as the gateway to Antarctica, the area surrounding El Calafate is sometimes referred to as The End of the World (El Fin del Mundo). You can take a train that covers all of the dispersed sights—which include a Train Cemetery and the aquamarine Lago Roca. It’s a great activity to enjoy in conjunction with a night at Estancia Alice.
