The Monastery tour was a little disappointing. More of an in-and-out thing. We didn't get to see the brewery since it was closed, and there was a service going in the church, so it was a bit weird trying to go in to see how it looked.
Zugspitze is quite the experience. Would recommend, but just be aware that the weather at that altitude is highly variable. Don't expect to see four countries... GO expecting to see some breath-taking mountain scenery, and then be really happy if you get a clear day and can see everything.
This is a fun day trip with beautiful landscapes everywhere. We enjoyed the tour, but there were two downsides to the trip. First, Gray Line sold virtually every seat on our bus. Therefore, even though our tour guide was excellent, it was sometimes hard moving more than sixty people from place to place. Second, there really isn't much to see at Ettal Monastery--only the chapel. Perhaps a better place to visit, which is not much farther away, would have been Wieskirche--a Unesco World Heritage sight.
I would not recommend this tour be booked for a couple of reasons.
1. The visit to the monastery was almost non existant. I was expecting to tour the monastery but instead the bus pulled up and we had 20 minutes to look around . There was no access to the monastery and only allowed a quick peak into the church.
2. Our guide informed us that rarely was the weather at the top of the mountain agreeable -- he has only seen one clear day out of too many to have made this worth a day taken from precious limited vacation days.
