Wonderful location, but your felt rushed and disappointing lunch
, jul 2019
Loved the Douro Valley, well worth visiting. The boat trip and visit to the vineyard were great although the wine tasting only lasted 15 minutes and felt very rushed, especially since the wine is the whole point of being there! The lunch was very disappointing, we were just given food without being told what it was and it was very hot in the restaurant (no air con and we had to sit inside). They only provided red wine on the table and I had to ask for white twice and it only came out after the starters. I asked the tour guide what we were eating and she told me it was vegetable soup (which was bland), cod and potatoes (which was nice) and ‘flan’ (awful). I didn’t dare ask what the wine was (the bottle had no label) as I had already asked a lot but again a shame that this happened when the wine should have been the most important thing on this trip (especially as the food was awful). Overall I’m glad I did I went on the trip, but more due to the place itself than the tour. In my opinion it would have been better to skip Amarante and have more time for lunch/the boat/the vineyard.
After a slow start (one of the guests got on wrong bus) - this was frustrating, mostly because we were told 5 minutes and they were almost 30 minutes late.
After that, Claudia the guide was professional and knowledgeable and catered to everyone - she did an excellent job. A fabulous mixed tour of stops with an enjoyable lunch. Highly recommended.
Trip was great. The variety of history and wine making information made this a very interesting day. Did not feel rushed at all and had time to stretch our legs and take in several sites since it was a distance to the Douro wine country. Lunch was delicious and very hearty. Our guide for the day, Daniel, was quite knowledgeable and did everything possible to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. And our driver was fantastic - he maneuvered the bus through narrow streets and heavy traffic in ways that seemed impossible. Well worth the time and money spent.
Tour guide was just okay, didn’t seem to have a lot of passion for the experience and just took us through the motions of the day. Views and stops were great, plenty of time to see what you wanted. Would have liked more dialogue from the guide about history, personalized info and humor. Didn’t recall where we needed to be dropped off so we had to walk back to our hotel from down the hill because she didn’t want to drive back around in the traffic.
Overall the tour was great, and the guide was excellent.
The tour started a bit late since the pick up in the morning was running late (picking people from around the city, with heavy traffic). It would have been better to meet everyone at a more central point rather than waiting with the bus so far away.
The first stop point was nice but wasn't the very interesting in my opinion (the church with the saint).
Overall the tour was great, lunch was very nice, and so were the boat on the river and the wine tour.
Our tour was on French ans English, you get to meet people the world over. They phone you a Day before tout confirm Weso make sure you have an international plan. We saw a lot and it was great if like me, you want to see Douro without drinking. But yes, wine was served for lunch and you get to taste Port wine.
This was an excellent full day excursion to the Duoro Valley. It included a stop in the morning, lunch, wine tour and tasting and ended with a cruise on the river in the sunshine. Daniel was our guide and was attentive and well informed. Great value for the money!
