Great tour with John. He is passionate about history and we learned so much. I felt like we saw so much that we would have missed otherwise. It was also helpful to have someone help us navigate the crowds. After the tour we were able to go back to places he showed us that we wanted to spend more time.
If I could give this tour more stars, I would. This is well worth the money. Our guide, John, was very nice and he knew his stuff. He was able to bring the history of the area alive and as a resident, he knew how the past interacted with the present. His passion for the history came through in the conversation. We went on many tours in the UK and this was the best. He took us to the highlights and then the areas that other tours missed. If you want more than what the guidebooks say and are interested in the history of the area - don't miss this tour!!!
Great tour run by John. It was knowledge, quirky, insightful and terrific. If you are spending a day here then this is the trip for you. John will tailor your trip to your interests and you really have a locals view on York. A great insightful tour that allows you to truly see all the sights.
We spent a fabulous morning touring York with John just before the New Year. It was our favorite morning of our 9 day trip to the UK. Our kids, ages 13 and 15, also really enjoyed the outing. John was extremely knowledgeable, entertaining, and great company. We took the tour the first morning of our visit and it was a great overview of the city history which is what we had requested. A walking tour is the perfect way to see York since a lot of the city is pedestrian only. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this tour!
This tour was amazing! John's knowledge of archaeology and history make for a fascinating few hours. He had emailed me before I got there to ask about my interests, very nice touch. And he is a good guy to be around, friendly and pleasant. I was very lucky in that I was the only one on the tour that day, so got a tailor made private tour.
I plan a trip back to York and will do this tour again.
My wife and I loved this tour. Our guide, John, was quite passionate about York history and it shows in the energy he brings to the tour. He took us to places I am sure we would have missed had we been on our own. You set the pace and John delivers the facts. Never a dull moment.
You should do this first thing when you arrive. You are sure to miss out if you don't.
This was a great experience with John our tour guide. We did the 2-hour tour. We were clearly going over time a little, but John told us not to worry about this. We had people in our party from 14 to 73 and John was able to keep us informed and entertained.
We asked for a specific start and end location and this was accommodated exactly.
