Captain Hook Pirate Ship

Captain Hook Pirate Ship
Aboard a Cancun-based Captain Hook Pirate Ship, spend a family-friendly evening that includes a buffet dinner served by salty seamen, dancing on the deck, and imbibing at an open bar. The 18th-century Spanish galleon replicas cruise the Caribbean while “pirates” entertain the crowd with tales of past escapades and dramatic sword fights.

The Basics
Each 93-foot-long (28-meter) ship—named El Galleon I, El Bucanero II, and The Black Pearl—in the Captain Hook fleet can hold up to 285 passengers. Although the vessels look old-world, they are thoroughly modern, with up-to-date sound and video systems and air-conditioned areas. The included dinner comprises lobster, chicken, steak, or a surf-and-turf combo, as well as vegetables, salad, baked potato, rice, and dessert. Wash it down with drinks from the open bar while live enemy attacks, complete with swords and pistols, take place throughout the night.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Captain Hook Pirate Ship is a great option for families with small kids, as well as travelers looking for an evening alternative to Cancun’s busy bars.
  • Children under age 5 receive a free grilled chicken entree.
  • You must select meal choices, which differ in price, at the time of booking.
  • Admission includes dinner, an open bar, and a live performance.
  • The ship is not suitable for wheelchair users.

How to Get There
The Captain Hook Pirate Ship departs from the Marina Captain Hook in Cancun, a 20-minute drive from the hotel zone’s northern tip and a 15-minute drive from downtown. Round-trip transportation from Cancun, the Riviera Maya, and most hotels is available for an extra fee.

When to Get There
Ships depart daily at 7pm; be at the marina 45 minutes before departure to check in. Expect to return to land around 10:30pm. As with most Cancun attractions, Captain Hook cruises are busiest December to April and on weekends. You may want to avoid the area during hurricane season (May to December).

Ventura Park
If you’re looking for another family-friendly activity in the area, visit Ventura Park, a beachfront amusement park located in Cancun’s hotel zone. It’s divided into different “worlds,” including Wet ’n Wild, Underworld, Aaah!Ventura, Grand Prix, Fun World, and Dolphinaris. These boast a mix of attractions such as water slides, ziplines, dolphin encounters, go-karts, a high-tech arcade, and more.
