3 Days in Colorado: Suggested Itineraries

3 Days in Colorado: Suggested Itineraries
The Centennial State has mountains of fun whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or a city slicker.

Day 1: Up

Even if you don’t go skiing at Aspen, Vail or Telluride, don’t miss an opportunity to experience the soaring peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Take it easy and get used to the altitude before you tackle Rocky Mountains National Park, one of the country’s greatest outdoor attractions. You can let someone else take car of the driving while you enjoy the scenery on a free shuttle bus service through the park. Otherwise there are numerous excellent hiking trails, ranging from pleasant strolls to some of the most demanding terrain imaginable.

Day 2: Down

Never been white-water rafting before? Welcome to your new obsession. Head to Buena Vista and plot your route along the Arkansas River as it carves its way through soaring peaks and plunging canyons. There’s Browns Canyon, for instance, a great starting point for the novice rafter, while the Narrows Express takes things up a notch and throws in some of the most amazing scenery the river has to offer. But if even those churning stretches still left you upright and relatively dry, the treacherous drops and turns of the The Numbers will wipe the smirk off your face.

Day 3: Town

The Mile-High City of Denver is a year-round magnet whether you use it as a base to explore Colorado’s stunning scenery or getting to know the charms of the city itself. With an excellent art museum as well as the Colorado History Museum to bring alive the pioneer days, there are indoor diversions aplenty. Or for some retail therapy, head to Cherry Creek, Denver’s premier shopping destination, where you can also enjoy great dining.
