Tour was fine, BUT Viator fell down on the job
Bourbon Trail Tour to Woodford Reserve, Four Roses, and Wild Turkey | okt 2019
I am sorry to have to give this a 3/5 rating; If I was rating only the tour, my rating would be higher. Points lost on account of the booking/Viator process.
I booked this tour months before my anticipated trip to the Lexington area as I wanted to visit several distilleries without the hassle of doing all the driving after multiple samplings. I printed a hard copy of my ticket and added the address listed for where I was to meet the tour to my phone for easy GPS access.
Fast forward several months to my visit to Lexington; I checked the address on my ticket and set forth to meet my tour. Unfortunately, my printed paperwork had an incorrect address for the meeting site and that address was 30 miles south of where I was supposed to be, resulting in me failing to meet up with my tour at the appointed time. The Tour Guide, Perry, was great about the whole thing but the tour had to move to its first stop (breakfast) without me. Perry kept in contact with me and in order to not miss the entire tour, we agreed I would meet up with the tour at the first stop however from there I had to follow the tour bus the rest of the day.
All three distilleries were interesting, hospitable and full of interesting information. (Note: the Four Roses Distillery provided historical insight and samples, but there was not distillery tour per se). The history, legacy and pride in their facilities cannot be denied.
I cannot thank Perry, my guide, enough. He was knowledgeable, a great source of local and bourbon information, helpful, and understanding about making this work. I also shared a delightful lunch with the rest of my tour "companions" at Heavens To Betsy Deli & Bakery in Lawrenceburg, KY. Great food, ample servings!
Viator, you fell down on the job. Your typo (omitting one digit of the address) sent me so far out of my way that I missed one of the meals included with my tour, missed the insight of the tour guide, and defeated the entire purpose of going on a guided tour (including about 150 extra miles of driving). The whole point of taking the tour was to NOT have to drive.
The moral of the story, to Viator and patrons alike, check your addresses.
I am not from Lexington and don't know what is a suburb and what isn't and suspect this could occur more frequently than I know. We rely on your information, Viator; what should have been a very nice tour left a bitter taste in my mouth--and it was not from the distillery products.
