I was a bit apprehensive while booking this tour as the cost was a bit high for a day trip. But all those doubts went away as the day progressed and at the end of it all I was almost jumping like a baby. The day started early. I was picked up from the hotel by a nice chap called Tony and was also impressed by the large well maintained safari vehicle. The first stop was the Giraffe centre with its rare Rothschild Giraffes. Then it was time for cute baby elephants at the elephant orphanage. After that came the real attraction, an afternoon game drive at the Nairobi National Park, a one of a kind wildlife sanctuary just adjacent to a city where one can witness wildlife action with sky scrappers of Nairobi acting as the backdrop. It was during those three hours that Tony showed his true mettle. With naked eyes he could spot animals at a distance where most people will struggle even with binoculars. Add to this his great sense of anticipation and you have the best possible guide. He could sense where the action could be and pro-actively position the vehicle right in the middle of it. Thanks to him, I could witness two lionesses just a few feet from the vehicle going after a herd of hartebeests. I can safely say that out of all the vehicles in the park that day, I got the best view of the action and the best photos. I saw far more in those three hours, than what I bargained for, including three rare white rhinos. The whole day went smoothly and the game drive at the end was one of the most exhilarating experiences ever. I can't recommend this tour highly enough, especially Tony. It was money well spent.
On our first trip to Nairobi we were looking for a good day trip and this one really delivered! Sammy the guide was engaging and knowledgeable. What was a pleasant surprise was that he offered a choice of lunch venues and the village was a nice place. He was also patient and never in a rush. Be aware traffic can be bad so be flexible, and don't expect to be back by a certain time. Saw lots of different animals on the safari. Very reasonably priced and all entrance fees are included. Highly recommended!
This was a great tour to get the main sites in in one day. I even saw a baby rhino. My only constructive criticism is that it does not state that you are to buy the tour guide lunch and they choose the place. I did not mind, but as I did not know upfront I was short on cash and it caused for an awkward situation.
Tony is one of the best tour guides I have ever had. Often as a solo traveler if no one else books a tour, you are either asked to pay double or not even given a choice and the tour is cancelled. Neither happened. George the tour operator was very professional when I called to confirm the tour. Tony is full of knowledge about Nairobi and Kenya and open for any conversation. This tour really hits all the best highlights of Kenya. The Elephant Orphanage is a must and while the giraffe center was great, you can't beat cute baby elephants head butting your belly, Tony knew the right time for us to get in the line as this center is only open 1 hour every day and then pointed out the best location for getting a good view of all the elephants. While we didn't manage to see a lion in the park there was a sighting we did see zebra, giraffe, impala, rhino and more. Amazing views of Nairobi while being an a wild Sahara. I highly recommend this tour and Tony as a guide! Thanks guys for making my visit so special!
I can say with no exaggeration that this was one of the best days of my life, thanks in significant part to my guide, Tony. The itinerary was wonderful and the time was allocated very wisely. We spent just as much time as necessary at each of the stops though there seemed to be flexibility if you want to spend more time at the Giraffe Center of Elephant Orphanage. And our success at the Nairobi National Park was, I think, part luck and part Tony's expertise. We saw so many animals, including a few majors, like a mother and baby rhinoceros mere meters from our van and then a lioness who was on the hunt and chased a herd of wildebeest and zebras. Though we began watching her with a group of vans, Tony had the foresight to change location to a bit further away which is where the lioness ultimately gave chase. How did he know!
I would be remiss if I did not mention Tony himself, a very wonderful, kind, fascinating man. He will tell you just as much about the street culture and awesome matatu as he will Nairobi's history. He is extremely knowledgeable about his country and his love for it is very moving. Oh yeah, and I have to mention that he is an amazing musician and if you ask, he can play you some of his very own music in the van - also ask for his Youtube name!!
You would be missing out if you traveled to Nairobi without a day like this.
This day tour more than delivered! Our driver Sammy was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The Elephant centre was a joy. The babies - and some of them are pretty big babies - came very close and we were able to stroke them. At the Giraffe sanctuary we also got to feed the giraffes. The game drive was amazing and we saw far more animals than I was expecting to be honest. Despite the rain Sammy negotiated his way expertly through the mud. Apart from lots of antelope, buffalo and zebra, we came across a pride of lionesses devouring their tea unfortunate zebra, and then were delighted to see some rhino, and then 2 hippo playing in the lake and then, just as we were leaving the park at the end of the afternoon, a whole family of baboons running and playing in the trees. Outstanding. Great tour, thank you.
