We booked this tour prior to a cruise and 12 days before the event. Email tickets didn't arrive in the first week following booking. By this time we were in China and our access was blocked. Couldn't access the trip. Be cautious and ensure you have download time prior to the tour. We thought 7 days would be ample. :(

Worst hop on hop off experience in my many years of travel. First of all, maps without the updated late times were not handed out wanted to save money, I guess. You have to ask when certain busses ends or you won't know that there are extended times. There is no one on the bus to help you as I experienced on past better tours. The coordination between the stops and the recording were not coordinated correctly on a bus. When the stop for the Shanghai museum was stated, we were in the middle of a street with shops. When I showed the bus driver, he stopped the bus and opened the door and signaled me to get off. I was very confused and thought maybe I was near the museum. I actually was pretty far and could not walk the distance. I had to ask for help and was directed to a city bus that I took back to the People's Park. When I told the young men from the tour what happened - that the bus driver let me off in the middle of nowhere - they seemed unconcerned and said that the bus driver does not speak English. I asked them to call a supervisor and one referred me to the number on the brochure. I called several times and no one answered the number. It was almost time for the tour to end and I took a bus back to the starting point at the Bund. Finally, two nice tour guides called their supervisor to report what happened. They gave me an extra day to complete the tour and she wrote it on the ticket. I could barely see her writing. Unfortunately, the ink faded and the next day, I did not have proof to show to the same three guys I encountered from yesterday. I just decided that I did not want the hassle and I wanted to spend my last day in Shanghai pleasantly. If you speak Chinese, you probably will not have a problem. If you are English speaking, caveat emptor, buyer beware!!!!!!

We have used Hop-on Hop-off all over the world and have been very happy. This was not the case with the Shanghai addition. The route displayed on our map really didn't always coincide with where the bus was going. Definitely could have been us but one time the red line went in a large circle only to get to the original starting pout. Same route same location didn't go around in a big circle. There are other very similar tour buses and it took a while to figure out which was which. Finding a bus stop took so much time as the map was very hard to read. In this day of technology an app should be available to show real time bus stops and where buses are on the route. I gave it 2 stars as we were able to find the blue line and took us exactly where it said we were headed. I'm sorry to say in the end I used the taxi to get around. We purchased a 2 day pass which was used twice.

We booked this based on our experience with the big bus tour company in other major cities... we couldnt have made a worse choice for our trip to Shanghai! There was no information about where the pick up points were on the confirmation information and the website is nonexistent! In fact when you go to the big bus companies main website Shanghai isnt listed as one the cities they cover. When we did eventually find the stop nearest our hotel, which we only found by stalking buses as they drove past, we were handed a map that continued to be inaccurate, with stops listed that didnt exist and no accurate street address for finding the next one. We booked the bus to get a slice of history and information about Shanghai early in our trip, however the almost nonexistent commentary on the red and blue routes did not educate us at all. The green route at least had a few more facts. The lack of commentary was made worse by the shrill mariachi band type music that was still so loud on volume 1 we had to remove one earbud to cope! So all in all a waste of our time and money as far as were concerned.

Voucher only give you a number so you need to call the place and we walk to People's park from Nanji Road line 10 to find the actual location where you need to trade the voucher. Turns out there is much nearer metro to the place and we are not informed.overall we are able to do tunnel and jin mao without issues, i just hope you not need to exchange anymore and use the actual voucher

We didn't have a chance to go on this tour as our train bringing us to Shanghai was late :-

I purchased the Hop on Hop off with the extra fee for the Shanghai Tower.
We were in town for business but had a day and a half for sightseeing beforehand. The bus was fine, although we waited for almost a half an hour for a bus while waiting at the Tower. It was a Monday and so, maybe, that was the issue? Other than that, the bus was fine. It gave some information on the sites that you saw, as you rode by. Of course, they weren't really linked up, as how would the tape know when the driver was late. LOL. We enjoyed looking at the architecture and the people watching as we went by.
However, they wouldn't give me my river cruise tickets. They said that I had to buy the premium tickets. I bought the only tickets that Viator had. The attendants wanted another 120 yuan each more for the cruise - 200 each more for the upgraded cruise. I wasn't going to pay more. We couldn't tell if we were being scammed by the attendants or not. We called the tour office. They only spoke Chinese and had no one who could speak English or help us. We went on their website. Again, only Chinese. Who has a tour office with only Chinese speaking people?? Our concierge at our hotel called them but they wanted our receipts, so he couldn't help us. (He called while we were out on day 2). By then, it was too late for us. I was disappointed, as the cruise was one of the highlights for us buying the tour ticket. Be aware, especially in China.

Sorry I bought the deluxe ticket as we only used 1/2 day if it. Buses were great. Routes seemed good and wish we had more time. We were on a cruise with only an overnight.

the service in general was good. It had good frequency although if you asked to the company guys at the stop they always said the next bus was 10 min away but you could easily wait 20 min to half an hour. the stops were well determined in the most famous places of interest. I had better experience on this bus than in the other two tours I had in Shanghai.

Hop on, Hop off bus tours are generally quite similar, this Shanghai edition was below par though. It was originally run by the well known Big Bus Company, but has been taken over at some stage as a local/government project. On multiple buses I noticed issues with the GPS sync on the audio tracks sometimes a clip would begin and suddenly be cut off by another one beginning, most of the time the commentary was also late which meant it would be describing something you've already passed or more annoyingly advising of an upcoming stop after the bus has set off again. Also the commentary is a bit outdated, referring to various completed projects as being in progress or set for completion in 2012 for example, there's also a thank you from Big Bus at the end of the circuits. There's no clear timetable or indication of bus frequency, my impression was that they seem to run at roughly 30 minute intervals but it's hard to tell - staff at major stops were friendly and tried to be helpful, but I suspect were mostly guessing at the next bus details to be fair, traffic makes things a bit unpredictable. With all that said, if you keep your wits about you with regards to the stops you want to get off, the service works perfectly well for the basic hop on hop off function and getting around the city. I can't say I loved Shanghai personally, but the bus does get you to a good number of interesting and impressive places. Worth doing if you're a fan of this kind of tour, just don't expect it to be quite as easy as in other cities. Try to get to the People's Square stop first easy by subway as this was the only place where they'd check vouchers and give you the proper tickets and map etc, also the only place to reliably find out when the next bus is due.
