With a dramatic backdrop of volcanic fields and sun-soaked beaches, and a dry, warm climate year-round, Tenerife’s undulating countryside makes the perfect landscape for golfing. Golfing in Tenerife has been mounting in popularity ever since the first court, El Peñon (now the Real Club de Golf de Tenerife), opened its green back in 1932, and now the island harbors 9 courses, with options ranging from beginner to pro and many clubs offering special holiday packages and single use prices for non-members.

Along with the 18-hole Real Club in  Tacoronte, the north is also home to the cliff-side Buenavista Golf, an 18-hole course designed by golfing legend Seva Ballesteros and the beginner-friendly Rosaleda Golf Course. Heading south, the most recent addition to Tenerife’s golf scene is Abama Golf, a challenging 18-hole court built by Dave Thomas in 2005, which competes with old favorites like the spectacular coastal Amarilla Golf & Country Club, the masterwork of British architect Donald Steel, and José Gancedo and Manuel Piñero’s 27-hole Golf del Sur, famously used as a venue for international PGA tournaments. If its sweeping views you’re after, the Golf Coast Adeje, set in a former banana plantation, or the renowned championship course of Club de Golf Las Américas, adorned with tricky water features, are both popular choices, whereas beginners can practice teeing off at the 9-hole Centro de Golf Los Palos near Las Galletas.
