What You Can Expect

Fleurieu Peninsula Craft Beer and Brewery 4WD Tour Including 3-Course Lunch

McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Peninsula 4WD Tour

After pickup in Adelaide by sturdy yet comfortable 4WD vehicle, your day trip starts with the 40-minute drive south of the city to the McLaren Vale region; while known around the world for its wines, the area is also home to several handcrafted beer operations.

Your tour of local microbrews begins at Goodieson’s Brewery, an award-winning boutique brewery where your tasting includes beers such as pilsner and German-style maibock. You may get the chance to chat with the expert brewer, Jeff Goodieson, if he’s around before continuing your tour with an off-road drive to a viewpoint that boasts photo ops of McLaren Vale and the coast. Then head to your next beer venue, Red Poles, where you’ll sample Vale Ale Brewing Company’s American-style dark lager and Australian IPA in a rustic Australian bush setting.

Next, refuel with a 3-course outdoor lunch at a local restaurant, where a beer-friendly menu features a number of mouth-watering dishes. (Dessert and drinks are not included but are available for purchase; the staff is happy to recommended beer pairings.) Then continue your beer adventure at Ekhidna Beer Haus for a tasting of their unique beverage that’s part beer, part ginger beer.

Back in your 4WD, take an exciting ride along Silversands Beach to admire views of Gulf St Vincent (depending on weather and tide conditions), and stop to take photos and enjoy another beer tasting before heading to your last stop, the Smiling Samoyed. From this microbrewery’s location next to the Myponga Reservoir, where kangaroos often graze in the sun, you can enjoy your tasting while keeping an eye out for wildlife. Your day trip then ends with the 45-minute drive back to Adelaide.

Tour includes lunch, morning snacks and a drink. Recommended beer paddles cost between $5 and $10 and can be purchased at will according to your thirst.

Awesome local knowledge of ecology, culture and history. Great lunch in national reserve. Ben is a top-notch bloke and incredible tour guide! This was 1 of best experience of my life.
Only negative: beer paddle samples at breweries not included in price. An all-inclusive offering would be convenient.

This was one of the most entertaining tours my wife and I did in Australia. Ben was a great tour guide - friendly and full of information. We were the only people on the tour, so we ended up having a private tour for the day. Our tour was on a Monday, and only 3 of the 4 breweries were open (be wary on Monday/Tuesday, they're not all open). To make up for it, we spent more time at each of the breweries after our tastings and had a pint of our favorite from the tasting. Note that you do have to pay for your own tastings/beers at each brewery - but lunch is included in the price of the tour. Our lunch was excellent - Ben works with great vendors to make sure your meal is top notch. At the last brewery (which was our favorite), you can buy beers to bring back with you to Adelaide. Ben takes you on a drive on a beach, and you drive into a few parks to get some great scenic views.

Since Ben grew up in the McLaren Vale region, he is very knowledgeable about the landscape and area. He keeps you engaged and involved throughout the day, making sure all needs are met. We had a great day tasting beer and off-roading!

A very unique experience as first time in a 4WD. Ben our host was very passionate and informative. Although one of the brewery's visits was cancelled, it was replaced with a winery visit which we also enjoyed.
