Your wine tour from Adelaide starts at Victoria Square, where you’ll meet your guide and hop aboard a minicoach for the 45-minute drive to McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s most iconic wine regions. Your first stop is Rosemount Estate.
When you arrive at this award-winning winery, admire the landscape of vineyard-covered hills, which you can view from the tasting room. Enjoy a wine-tasting session provided by the winery staff before continuing to your next winery, Lloyd Brothers Wine and Olive Company. Here, sample wines like shiraz, the varietal this winery is known for, while you learn about the three generations of operation at this family-owned business. After your tasting, you may browse items like olive oil, wine and beauty care products in the gift shop.
Next, your tour continues on McLaren Vale’s main street, where you have free time to explore independently. There are many ways to enjoy the culinary delights here—perhaps visit FruChocs to watch candy being made; check out the Almond Train, housed in a 1920s train carriage, to sample nuts, chutneys and other regional goods; enjoy another wine tasting at Hardys, a heritage-listed winery that dates back to 1857; or head to a cafe to relax with a cup of coffee.
At the end of your free time, return to your tour vehicle for the journey back to Adelaide, stopping in the town of Glenelg, a seaside community just 6 miles (10 km) outside of central Adelaide. Take a brief walk along the shore before heading back to the city for hotel drop-off. (Alternatively, you may stay longer in Glenelg and return to Adelaide on your own via the tram (own expense), a 20-minute ride aboard the last remaining tram line in the region).
