Your day trip starts as you depart your hotel with your guide, traveling by sturdy yet comfortable 4WD vehicle for the 40-minute drive to South Australia’s McLaren Vale wine region. During the ride, hear stories about the area from your guide.

When you arrive in the region, stop by a couple of local wineries, where you’ll skip the traditional tasting room session for a more exclusive experience of sampling wines straight from the barrel or in the vineyards (dependent on weather and availability of staff). This gives you the opportunity to chat with winemakers and learn about the newest releases.

Continue your tour by heading down off-road trails that highlight a side of McLaren Vale’s natural scenery that many visitors never see. Hop out of the vehicle for a snack of local cheese and a glass of wine at a viewpoint known only to locals before making your way to your next stop, an acclaimed local restaurant whose seasonal dishes feature regional ingredients. Sit down to your gourmet 3-course lunch, enjoy beer and local wines as well as a local fruit and hand-made chocolate platter while admiring views of vineyard-covered hills.

Back in the 4WD, head down a scenic track through the Willunga Hills, and enjoy views over the whole region, including the waters of Gulf St Vincent. If the tides are low, you’ll take an exciting drive on Silversands Beach. Finally, visit your last venue of the day, a historical homestead where you’ll end your McLaren Vale experience with a wine tasting in the private cellar. Then make the 40-minute drive back to Adelaide, where your day trip concludes.

Great day out

A contender for highlight of our month long visit to Aus. Tour exceeded expectations and delivered everything in the online description. Great to get way from the crowds and very much enjoyed the company and knowledge of our first class guide, Nathan. Also enjoyed meeting the company owner, Ben, in Primo winery where he was doing ‘research’. Read a complimentary review of company by Chris Haslam in Sunday Times travel section which is why we booked with them. Thanks for a great day out.

Hi Kate-JohnR, what a wonderful review! And, hopefully we took out first place in the end? ;) Nathan and I thoroughly enjoyed having you both on tour through our beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula visiting the stunning McLaren Vale wine region, en-route. The Vintage (grape harvest) period really is one of the most exciting times to visit the region with so much going on. Super food, exclusive locations and journeying through the region away from the crowds is what we enjoy and thrilled you both enjoyed the itinerary's inclusions. We look forward to having you back onboard for a further collective research! Warmest regards, Ben
