Itinerary

Day 1: Palermo (D)When you arrive in Palermo, make your way to your designated hotel to meet your guide and tour group. Your guide will go over your itinerary during an orientation presentation, followed by dinner at the hotel.
Overnight: Hotel in Palermo
Day 2: Palermo – Agrigento – Taormina (B,D)Depart in the morning for Agrigento, a hillside town famous for its magnificent Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On a guided tour of the valley, which dates back to the 5th century BC, you’ll understand why the ancient Greek poet Pindar described the site as “the most beautiful city built by mortal men.”
The Doric-style temples, all constructed within one century, face east – a standard criterion for Greek and Roman temples so the statue of the gods faced the rising sun. The highlight is the Temple of Concordia (similar in design to the Parthenon in Athens), which is an almost perfectly preserved condition. Your guide will highlight the history and architecture of this temple and several others that make up this archaeological treasure-trove.
Then, continue on to Taormina, arriving in the evening for a relaxing dinner at your hotel.
Overnight: Hotel in Taormina
Day 3: Taormina – Mt Etna – Taormina (B)Start your morning with a walking tour of Taormina’s charming city center, including the Greek/Roman amphitheater, with its spectacular view of Giardini Naxos and Mt Etna.
Then hop in the air-conditioned coach or minivan – depending on the size of your group – and journey to Mt Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. Venturing up 5,905 feet (1,800 meters), drive through the fertile slopes and villages that sit on ancient volcanic eruptions, and visit the Sylvester Craters for the best views around.
On the way back to Taormina, you have the option of taking a tour to the villages of Savoca and Forza d’Agro to see where The Godfather was filmed. These authentic Sicilian villages were chosen by director Francis Ford Coppola for most of the scenes in the Godfather movies. This is a good way to explore the real untouched Sicilian countryside, local lifestyle and culture!
For dinner back in Taormina, your guide can recommend great local restaurants for you to enjoy a Sicilian meal on your own.
Overnight: Same hotel in Taormina
Day 4: Taormina – Syracuse – Taormina (B,D)On your third day, venture to Syracuse, a city notable for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheaters and architecture, and for being the birthplace of the mathematician and engineer Archimedes.
Take a guided tour of the city’s venerable highlights including Archaeological Park, the ancient Greek Theatre and two limestone cave sites: The Ear of Dionysius and Latomia del Paradiso, filled with orange and olive trees.
Head back to Syracuse in the evening to savor a special Sicilian dinner with wine at a restaurant characteristic of this region.
Overnight: Same hotel in Taormina
Day 5: Taormina (B)Your eastern Sicily excursion ends on your fifth day. Enjoy a leisurely buffet breakfast before checking out of your hotel and continuing your vacation on your own.

Numerous problems with this tour.
No1 no communication from operator and poor communication from Viator. 5 emails to Viator over 5 days re query re hotel to meet at, as wanted to book further nights before and after the tour. No answer, so had to ring local contact at my expense, who was very difficult to understand. They ended up screaming at me not appreciated and gave me the name of the hotel as Excelsior, when it was Mercure Palermo Excelsior. Taxi drivers knew this hotel as Mercure. Reply was so late I couldnt book any nights there. My voucher did not have details of hotel on it! A full itinerary should be emailed to participants months prior to such a tour. There was no communication from the tour operator, and Viator support was not helpful and extremely slow - unacceptable.
No2 - advertised as a 5 day tour but really only 3 days. Day 1 we were met at 7:30 pm and taken by guide to restaurant, but guide left so we received little/no explanation re tour. Food on night was scant the main meal salad option was just lettuce on a plate, thats not a salad! The guide left us on the afternoon of day 4, to drive back to Palermo. Day 5 was just a check out from the hotel. The three days were full on and rushed.
No 3 - Be aware not all meals are included. Nothing prior to tour tells you how many lunches and dinners are included and itinerary only given on day 1 of tour. All morning tea stops were at petrol stations! Seriously??? dont do this at home, why would you do this on holidays?
No 4 - Outline of tour states Mt Etna, then with an option for more villages on the way back. But we were given choice of either Mt Etna or the villages of Savoca and Forza dAgro, not both as outline suggests. The tour doesnt include the cost of going up to the active part of Mt Etna, just the base which is a touristy car park area and walks to inactive craters. No lunch supplied that day, some of our group missed lunch completely due to this.
Our guide was very nice, but was following the operators guidelines, overall poor service from operator of tour.

This tour was operated by VerdeSicilia, a local tour operator in Sicily. Our guide, Marina Gristina was the BEST and totally made the tour worth every dollar we paid. We loved everything we saw in Palermo, Agrigento, Taormina, Syracusa, and at Mt. Etna. We do wish the first day had not involved so much time on the bus 5 hours, but, otherwise, the trip was well organized.

From a person who prefers to go solo, i would highly recommend this tour as most visits were day trips from the hotel so I did not feel like i was in a boot camp. The hotel provided an excellent breakfast buffet and featured a beautiful pool area and private beach. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the Sicilian way of life and the history of the island.

Great job by Marco G. He is so much fun and full of knowledge. Great personality. We had only five of us and we saw a lot in the short trip. Keep in mind, it is not really a 5 day. It really is three nights. Hotel change was not brought to my attention so I ended up at the wrong hotel. Thank goodness I had the paper work that showed who was the tour operator it is not viator but a local outfit. Tip: Always bring the information with you that describes the local tour operator. We were able to get in touch with them and discovered that the hotel changes had been implemented for at least one year. Viator never updated their information to reflect the hotel changes. Bad for the customer. it cost me 10 euros to have another local driver come get me and hook me up with my tour director who was waiting for me at dinner. Thank goodness I had a great meal and met my co travelers for this trip. Marco is wonderful and you will be lucky to get him on this fabulous beautiful journey through Sicily-a hidden treasure. Also note, they use a local operator for the tour who stays with you for its entirety, but engage local tour guides at each stop. Be prepared to tip those smart guides-they too were simply excellent. Enjoy!

We have never been on a guided tour before and were dubious as to whether we would enjoy it. It was great. Our guide, Marina, was delightful: enthusiastic, knowledgable, caring and charming. Our fellow travellers were interesting and educated. The hotel accommodation was certainly 4 star. The only quibble - a better air-conditioned coach would have been appreciated.

Despite the 4 star rating, we felt a little ripped off in that the 5 day tour was actually 3 days plus a 7:30Pm start for Dinner on day one and ended with breakfast on day 5. The actual tour and guides were excellent value and very informative.
