What You Can Expect

Amsterdam Canal Cruise by Small Open Boat

Discover the hidden canals in Amsterdam during your small-group cruise

This 75-minute cruise departs regularly throughout the day, making it easy to fit into your sightseeing schedule. In central Amsterdam, board a 12-person or slightly larger 30-person vessel — both smaller and more intimate than the mainstream cruise boats — and meet your seasoned skipper.

Take in unobstructed views from your open-air vessel. Your skipper shares informative commentary on the architecture and landmarks that you see along the way. During your outing, you'll leave the larger cruise boats behind as you navigate the narrow canals and hard-to-reach waterways of the legendary Red Light District. This canal system was once contained within the city walls, and the walled canals gave rise to the district’s Dutch name, De Wallen (little walls). Hear tales about this area’s scandalous reputation.

Cruise along the city’s lovely UNESCO-listed canal ring, and drift past 17th-century gabled houses and historic landmarks including the Mint Tower (Munttoren), Hermitage Amsterdam, the Skinny Bridge, the Golden Bend and Amsterdam City Hall.

After a little over an hour, return sail to the departing dock, where your tour ends.

Very good, but would have liked more of the small canals

This tour was wonderful and our guide was very well informed about the area, funny too!

The trip itself was near perfect. The process of getting from the on-line purchase voucher to an actual ticket was awkward and confusing.

We Amsterdam! The canal cruise was great, the weather was perfect, couldn't have had a better day if we tried.

Would have liked more information about canals we were in, buildings of importance. Our boat captain seemed to wait for questions rather than being a real communicator.

The tour itself was very good. However, the intent of booking the canal cruise by small open boat was to be able to access canals that larger boats could not access such as the canal through the middle of the red light district. The tour did not include that and seemed to follow the same routes as most of the other boats of all sizes. In that respect the tour was a bit disappointing.

Good, tour guide was nice, but not so knowledgeable. Was great for a layover between flights!
